Yeah, the clone may even fail with exactly the same set of commands. I have similar experience in some servers. This is caused by the status of network connection. When the network connection is unstable, timeout may be triggered and similar errors occur.

To resolve this issue, you may need a server that can access github, then manually checkout the branch specified in requirements.txt git checkout xxx and pip install -e . should resolve the issue.

In that case, one solution is to manually download the dependency with that commit. For example, in requirements.txt, for

peft@ git+https://github.com/huggingface/peft@df0e1fb

you may visit PEFT's original github, and go to https://github.com/huggingface/peft/tree/df0e1fb, click the green "Code" button and choose "Download ZIP". A peft-df0e1fb59266c9903ddd6dbfe7339bcd2068d150.zip file will then be downloaded to your local computer. You may move it to your server after that.

Unzip it and go inside the folder. Manually run pip install -e . will then install that dependency for you. This procedure goes similarly for

transformers @ git+https://github.com/huggingface/transformers@c612628045822f909020f7eb6784c79700813eda

Hi, it is because the internet connection issue.
Yes, basically, you can move the downloaded files to your working dir.

If you have manually downloaded those packages, you may safely remove them in requirements.txt and run pip install -e . again. The network connection issue should be resolved then. Thanks 😄
