5. Prerequisites & Shortcuts

To use FGSEditor effectively, ensure you have the following components set up on your system and familiarize yourself with the interface shortcuts to speed up your workflow.

Prerequisites & Dependencies

FFmpeg / FFprobe

  • Purpose: Used exclusively to probe video metadata (resolution, frame rate, and color space) when importing videos into the editor.
  • Requirement: You must have ffmpeg and ffprobe installed and available in your system PATH.

Important

These components are not distributed with FGSEditor and must be installed independently from ffmpeg.org.

  • Purpose: A dedicated CLI tool for injecting, extracting, and applying FGS data to AV1 bitstreams.
  • Distribution:
    • Windows: A pre-compiled binary is already included with the FGSEditor package.
    • Linux/macOS: Users must provide their own grav1synth binary and ensure it is accessible via the system PATH.
