Too many layers causes a memory explosion

Adding a couple of hundred layers causes the amount of memory utilised to skyrocket - this is obviously very annoying if you have lots of relationship types that you wish to model.

Once v4 is ready to be merged we need to come back and check if this has been solved (to any degree) on the OS in-memory graph
