Popcorn Hack 1:
- I have seen the digital divide in education especially in our area of San Diego. Certain schools or lower income places farther south do not have the same access to technology as we do, which causes less opportunities and a lower academic performance. People not making as much income cannot afford internet or multiple devices and means that lower income families will fall behind as technology becomes more important for school. There is a need for infrastructure or more digital literacy for students.
Popcorn Hack 2:
- A computing innovation that might unintentionally exclude certain groups could be platforms used for healthcare. The services a lot of the time call you or use technology assuming you can get back to them right away which for elderly or lower income individuals is sometimes difficult. As a result those without technology or easy access to it will receive worse healthcare and cannot easily book appointments because of most everything being online. By creating more inclusive ways for appointments in healthcare or support services could fix the issues of how healthcare and technology works.
MCQ:
answered all 3 correct, C, B, and B.
Homework Hack:
In the 4s and San Diego community, I’ve noticed that students from low income neighborhoods do not have easy access to technology. A lot of work in Del Norte is done online and some schools do not have similar technology to do this. There is also lack of infrastructure and affordable internet in some areas which further pushes the issue forward. These technology gaps make it harder for students to complete assignments or access online resources. To help fix the issue I could spread awareness or tell people to donate to these underprivileged schools. Additionally making changes for more affordable internet or devices in areas could help out and fix the issue.
