Between compasses and beams, likely the best way forward (without conflicting with timelimits on a case-by-case basis) is to have a boss bar like Hypixel which indicates if the direction you're heading has an objective. This is probably one of the more difficult implementations, but nonetheless a very user-friendly one. More input would be nice on how to go about this, but between everyone I've invited they've all had the single issue of objective locations on a per-map basis.
A toggle should be available using /toggle ObjectiveBar on|off in case veteran players want a less busy UI.
Wools - The direction you're heading, evident in games such as Hypixel's CTW, would update if you're heading toward the correct x/z coordinate where the wool chest is located. For maps that use spawners (none currently), the spawner would still be defined in the XML as the location so it can continue to work. The wool color would display on the top bar, and if the wool has already been captured, it would be a colored X with that wool color. If the wool has been touched, it will use the shaded pattern ASCII block.
Monuments - Same as above, direction heading with x/z tracking, except likely displayed as a black block. If the objective is more than one block (Atlas assigns percentages to these), it would be a shaded pattern ASCII block much like the wool above.
Hills - A star symbol would be adequate for the center. ✦ for when you're standing on it, and ✧ (hollow) when you're not. If there's multiple hills, it would still display the location of the other hills on your radar.
An example is seen below of what the objective location would look like:
- I am not facing the objective location head on; however, if I turn left to where the objective is, it would move toward the center of the boss bar.
- This would indicate that I'm heading the "right direction". As I move, so does the objective location on the boss bar.
