Issue 32 ended up being one argument told twice, at two different layers of the stack. First in the backup target, then in the management console. Both come down to the same thing: one of anything is the problem.

What's inside:

• From the Console: Rebuilding the lab's backup strategy on an ancient ReadyNAS in RAID 6, locked down to a single system with a dedicated service account, paired with an Azure storage account offsite for immutability and a year of retention. Your backup app should be BORING and predictable, and aging hardware can still be architected safely.
• The Take: A hot take on Hyper-V. The long list of "disparate" management tools that everyone criticizes is actually a control plane with no single point of failure. I used to be on the other side of this one.
• The Podcast: Episode 054 with Eric Siron on Windows Admin Center in 2026. Four hours, a from-scratch certificate authority, and a stack of error messages pointing the wrong direction, all to reach the login screen of a free Microsoft tool.
• Tool of the Week: Apache Guacamole, a clientless remote desktop gateway serving RDP, VNC, and SSH into a browser tab. A real second road in, with clear eyes about the irony of a gateway everything routes through.
• Quick Win: Pick the console you reach for most, then go do one routine task without it and time yourself. That number is worth knowing before the bad day, not during it.
