Black theme for QuickLook

I would like to see the Quick Look UI with dark theme when I open text files. Could you add that change in the next update?

QuickLook will follow the Windows theme: once you set Windows to use the dark theme, QuickLook becomes dark too.

I use a theme called Pure Dark from nivuu (it's on deviantart). When I open txt files, the text is impossible to read unless I mark it... Is there any way to avoid this problem?

Then the 3rd party theme must have changed some system colours. You have to give up using that theme or try tweaking by yourself. This discussion may give you some ideas about how to modify system colour definitions.

It is possible to change the colour by modifying all

<Default color="Black" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"/>

to something else e.g. #EEEEEE, #000000, or #111111 (I don't know which will do the trick, you need to try):

<Default color="Black" bgcolor="#EEEEEE"/>

Be sure to restart QuickLook after each modification.

You can start from Plugins/QuickLook.Plugin.TextViewer/SyntaxAutoHotkey.xshd but eventually you have to modify all files in this folder. You can then use GrepWin when doing that.

Good afternoon! I was thinking about changing the colors of the fonts the last time I commented in this thread, but actually it would be a LOT easier to just change the color of the background for the text files. Is there any way I can achieve this?

Right now, I still have the background being show in this light gray. Is there a way to make this darker?

AFAIK you have to modify the code the build yourself. The colour is defined at https://github.com/QL-Win/QuickLook/blob/master/QuickLook.Plugin/QuickLook.Plugin.TextViewer/TextViewerPanel.cs#L47.

Are there instructions for building anywhere?

No, but it's actually simple:

1. Install Git and VS2019.
2. Install WiX and VS2019 extension: https://wixtoolset.org/releases/.
3. Clone this repo, do remember to clone submodules (for QuickLook.Common).
4. Set PowerShell execution policy to unrestricted (how-to).
5. Double-click on QuickLook.sln, select build profile Release, and build the solution.
6. Find a MSI packages under Build/.
7. If you want a ZIP package, run the script at Scripts/pack-zip.ps1.
