I have an Xbox Series X, an HP gen7 microserver, a few IOT hubs, a consumer router and consumer modem. Of these, closest to having a standard width is the HP microserver. Some of these are also way shallowed than half-depth, and will be stacked behind each other to save on space on the shelves
I'm currently pretending they're half-rack sized (though Xbox Series X is vaguely 2/3rd of a 19" rack), and I have not added the Philips Hue hub, SmartThings hub, ISP's modem, TP-Link TL-WDR4300, Ubiquiti MPower smart power outlet strips, etc. because there's no clear way to add them into the Rackula-specified rack. These are very much not natively rackable devices unless I 3D print something, and these shelves will serve only to isolate them from the rest of the house.
These devices will also still use the rest of the rack's mechanisms: cabling, power, etc. so once that UI is clear and stable in Rackula, I'd like to use it.
Proposed solution
Allow defining shelves that accept variable height and variable width devices (e.g. 'flexible shelf' and 'flexible device').
In variable height shelves, accept stacking devices on top of devices (no matter width of the device).
In variable height shelves, allow putting a device behind another device, and add a per-shelf top-view.
