Bug: Issues with consuming library on Kotlin 2.x.

Since the current library is built using Kotlin 1.9.x, there are problems with consuming it (see, for example, ag-ui-protocol/ag-ui#631). At the moment, unfortunately, this is necessitating a vendored version of the code that I would like to eliminate if at all possible (see ag-ui-protocol/ag-ui#635)

It appears that this issue may have been submitted in error, as any library built with Kotlin 1.9.20 should still be consumable in Kotlin 2.x.
