A dataset is the data definition and, for Internal Database data, the stored rows. A report presents a dataset with its own chart, table, filters, thresholds, and sharing settings. More than one report can use the same dataset.
| Choice | Use when | Data refresh |
|---|---|---|
| Internal Database | You enter, import, write through the API, or load data into Analytics | Manual, API, Flow, or scheduled data load |
| Real-time source | The source should be read when the report is opened | Source is fetched on demand |
Use an Internal Database dataset when you need data history, data deletion jobs, or API writes. Use a real-time source when the source is authoritative and its response is quick and available to the Nextcloud server.
Report settings affect only that report. Dataset maintenance affects the underlying data. See Data source reference and Data-load troubleshooting before connecting external services.
