View this PR: https://update-events.chew-ra-docs.pages.dev/general/events.html

The current events page is just a few tables, and hasn't been updated in a long time.

This page organizes it a bit more, taking important, ongoing/yearly events and showing them off first. Ideally, we also list off current other one-off events, but this would mean the page needs to be updated a lot more often.

I'm not sure if we should also do former and evergreen events. Evergreen definitely needs a mention, but that forum post describes them all, so maybe individual links aren't needed.

Draft until I finish, heavily open to feedback, especially from the events team.

This is ready to review with a few questions for reviewers:

  1. Is the layout okay?
  2. Should past events be shown beyond just a link to evergreen?
  3. Is the order of events fine?
  4. Should current events be listed (it would require updating as new ones come in or time out)

  1. Is the layout okay?

The layout looks fine to me, breaking it down into sections rather than it being a table is a good way to restructure it.

  1. Should past events be shown beyond just a link to evergreen?

Not really, as they are finished there is not much reason to keep them around on a live document. I'll discuss it with the events team though and see if an archive section is desirable.

  1. Is the order of events fine?

Yep, looks good to me. They each flow well within the sections with recent events being more prominent.

  1. Should current events be listed (it would require updating as new ones come in or time out)

Ideally, yes. I'll bring it up with the events team so that we remember to update this document as events are started and finished.

Does this need to be included? None of the other events have the hosts named, if an event has a specific host then it is normally noted in the forum post which is already linked here fore each event.

I brought that over when I was converting some of the rows, I can remove it unless it's relevant or necessary. I'm sure if it was relevant it'd be on the forum thread itself though

Yep, at least in the case of LotM and Peak Streak I'm listed as a current host. If there is a specific host for the other events then they are usually shown in the top post.

After discussing it with the team we will add event hosts to the relevant events in a separate PR.

This is great Chew. Thank you for getting this very out of date document updated.

In terms of maintaining this, it would be really helpful if we could structure it similarly to https://discord.com/channels/310192285306454017/1415376506343133338 and https://retroachievements.org/forums/topic/28177 . Currently, when a event starts/ends, I updated the introduction channel, and then copy similar information over to the forum. If we include the same sort of information on this page, I could just add it to my list of areas to update when a new event begins or ends.

I can do that! I'll also link to that forum post in the lead too, as a "here's some more information" type thing. I'll bring over some more info from there as well!

@sutarionRA I've cleaned it up and reorganize a bit. Also added a link to the new page. Let me know if there's any more changes you want to make!
