Kodi Samsung TV v 0.0.8
wasm: use less memory, a TV kills the app when it runs short Every thread is a web worker holding about 6 MB, and Emscripten keeps the worker of a thread that ended for the next one. Kodi, add-ons that start threads and every plugin call piled them up until the TV killed the app, often as a video started, sometimes restarting itself. Only two idle workers are kept now. Fewer jobs run at the same time, the file cache defaults to 20 MB and fanart is cached at 720 lines, as its textures share the memory of the video decoder.
Kodi Samsung TV v 0.0.7
What's new
- Python add-ons that use requests / urllib3 connect again (setting socket options failed
on the TV, so the connection was never opened). - Much lower memory use: Kodi no longer keeps unused threads (each one costs about 6 MB on
a TV), runs fewer background jobs at once, uses a 20 MB playback cache and caches fanart
at 720p. This fixes the app being closed (or the TV restarting) when a video started,
especially with Python add-ons running.
Kodi Samsung TV v 0.0.6
What's new
- SMB network shares (smb://), SMB 2 and 3: add them under "Add network location" with the
server's IP address or name (a port only if it is not 445). Servers are not found
automatically, and SMB 1 is not supported. - Python add-ons that use their own connections (urllib, requests) work now; add-ons that
crashed Kodi when showing a selection dialog no longer do. - Live IPTV channels in MPEG-TS from servers that do not answer HEAD requests play now,
without having to set a mimetype.
Kodi Samsung TV v 0.0.5
What's new
- DRM protected streams play: Widevine, PlayReady and ClearKey, DASH and HLS,
H.264 and H.265, cenc and cbcs. Streams that InputStream Adaptive would play with
DRM settings (drm_legacy, drm or license_key) are played by Shaka Player under
Kodi's GUI, so the OSD, seeking, audio languages and subtitles work as usual. - Updated to the current Kodi master (October 15).
- Volume amplification and the centre channel level in the audio settings of a
video now work. - Quitting Kodi closes the app instead of leaving a black screen.
Kodi Samsung TV v 0.0.4
Fixed video stuttering every few seconds: Kodi no longer rewrites its profile
in the background when nothing has changed.
- Requires Tizen 6.5 or newer (Samsung TVs from 2022 on); older TVs now refuse to install it.
Kodi Samsung TV v 0.0.3
What's new
- System Information shows the real device: Tizen version and browser
(e.g. "Tizen 9.0 (Chromium 120)"), memory, CPU load, IP address, MAC,
gateway and DNS. - The Storage page shows how much of the app's storage is used and free.
- Uptime and battery, which a TV cannot report, are no longer shown.
- Add-ons that do not fit into the TV's storage are refused before they are
downloaded, instead of crashing Kodi (this happened with large skins). - Downloaded packages, temporary files and thumbnails are no longer kept in
storage, which leaves more room for settings and add-ons. - Settings are saved as soon as they change, so a new skin or other choices
survive when the TV closes the app.
Kodi Samsung TV v 0.0.2
New
- All 25 official PVR add-ons are included (IPTV Simple Client is enabled by default; enable others under Add-ons → My add-ons → PVR clients)
- InputStream Adaptive for DASH and HLS streams
- Network access through the Tizen sockets API
- Lower memory use; the app no longer freezes when memory runs low
Works
- Hardware-decoded playback (H.264, HEVC, VP9, AV1, up to 4K)
- IPTV, HLS and DASH streams
Known issues
- DRM (Widevine) protected video does not play properly yet
- Only IPTV Simple Client has been tested with a real backend
- High-bitrate or 4K DASH streams may run out of memory
