Runestone Issue: `rsmanage build` fails with python errors

Describe the bug

After pulling and running the latest containers (7.11.9), I am experiencing python errors when attempting an rsmanage build . This was working back in July of 2025 when I first pulled the latest version of RunestoneInteractive/rs (most likely v7.8.1).

I did download all the necessary files and container images to once again run v7.8.1, but errors are still being generated. I suspect the errors are the result of utilizing python3.13, rather than python3.10 (which was the case back in June of 2025?)

I should mention, all containers are up and healthy, with the login page rendering properly.

rsmanage is more of a utility container, and is not meant to be "up and running"

The recommended way to run it is docker compose run --rm rsmanage rsmanage build xxxx. See https://docs.runestone.academy

That said, I can see there is a new bug (not python3.13 related) for building non-pretext books in rsmanage. I don't build RST books very much any more and I don't use rsmanage to do so, so this just slipped through the cracks untested.

The easy workaround there would be to change directories to the root of the source for thinkcspy and just run runestone build --all deploy For my weekly rebuild of all books on runestone I have a separate virtual environment where I install runestone and just run the build command for each book using that virtual environment.

To Fix: Update the return statements in _build_runestone_book in build_tools/core.py to return a dictionary with keys "status" and "completed" like _build_pretext_book

Thank you for the fix. I will implement and let you know how it works. The reason I keep the rsmanage container up and running is because of DOD compliance requirements within our environment. I utilize portainer role based security to provide console access to that specific container. This allows an instructor or members of a portainer runestone user group to execute the actual rsmanage commands to deploy a runestone book without requiring full access to the docker server with sudo privs.
