Regression fix release for Ryan's v0.3.3 file search, drag guides, main-bar Files layout, and clipboard Enter paste.

Fixed

  • Main-bar file queries with filename hits promote into the full Files session (recents path, split preview, metadata footer) instead of a compact inline command list.
  • File search shares one Spotlight engine between inline discovery and Files mode, and empty Spotlight results no longer masquerade as missing folder access when Spotlight is still available.
  • Launcher drag guides mark the centered panel's left and right edges again; horizontal snap uses a narrow center band so off-center placement is preserved on release.
  • Clipboard paste hides Photon, reactivates the prior app with NSApp.hide, and uses a longer delivery delay so Enter paste reaches the focused field when Accessibility is trusted.
  • The packaged macOS gate verifies mixed-bar Files promotion, guide span, and real paste sentinel delivery.

Signing

This build is ad-hoc signed and not notarized: the Apple signing secrets were not configured when it was built. macOS Gatekeeper will block the first launch of a downloaded copy.

  • macOS 14: Control-click Photon.app and choose Open, then confirm.
  • macOS 15 and later: try to open the app once, then open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
  • Or remove the quarantine flag: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Photon.app

Install

brew tap ryanstoffel/taps
brew install --cask ryanstoffel/taps/photon

On Homebrew 7 or later, run brew trust ryanstoffel/taps once so that brew upgrade can load the cask.

Or download Photon-0.3.4.zip (or the .dmg) below and move Photon.app to /Applications. Verify a download with shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS after placing the file next to it.

Photon needs macOS 14 or later. It asks for Accessibility access on first launch for paste-back, the Hyper key, and window management; everything else works without it.
