How do I replace the icons?

This may be a _silly_ question, but I installed Modus and really liked it, but I didn't like the icons. I decided to replace them with the same size and scale as the original ones, but when I placed the new svg icons in the folder and restarted the app, the entire top bar disappeared. ** So, how can I replace these icons?**
