This commit removes a troublesome assert that was simply not correct. It also deactivates the over-the-top aggregation checks in Debug builds (can still be reactivated with required).

This PR removes a troublesome assert that was simply not correct. It also deactivates the over-the-top aggregation checks in debug builds (can still be reactivated if ever required).
