Ethical Issues
We will not collect any personal information other than typical account creation things (email, password, name etc.). It is completely up to the user to decide whether or not they want to share events that they are going to or make them public for anyone to see. If a user wants to create events that only their followers can see, they have the full power to do that. Private events will only be shown to the "friends"; users that are followed by and following the user who is sharing the event. There will be no location tracking done by our app. Any sort of feature that would extend the amount of information collected will be "opt-in"; we will never purposely collect & use more than stated and without user consent.
There is always a risk that trolls could misuse the app by posting events with harmful intentions or creating fake events that mislead other users. To combat this, ideally we would have some sort of moderation system in place, i.e. an event goes through some sort of "checking" algorithm to make sure that it does not put other users in danger or harm other users. Ideally, there would also be an event report system for any events that make it past the initial check. These would be sent to a team of humans to verify the validity of each event.
To ensure user safety, we plan to implement a user authentication system, requiring verified email addresses or similar verification steps for anyone who wants to post events publicly. This approach helps us prioritize safety by ensuring that users posting public events are identifiable and trustworthy. Public event posts should come from verified users who are accountable and committed to maintaining a safe environment for the community.
