Overview

Veil Light Utility allows the saving and loading of lights from the Veil library by Foundry as well as a basic "Quick HUD" for adding and removing lights.

Getting Started

The rest of this wiki will be a tutorial on how to use VLU.

Choose A Save Method

To begin with VLU, you'll want to choose a saving method. Saving occurs when you leave the world, but there are two different ways the lights can be saved:

  1. Compatible Saving "Compatible Saving" is VLU's default save method. It saves only the lights added through the Quick HUD to ensure that any other lights made by other mods that use Veil don't get saved to the world. Any lights added through Veil's built in editor will not be saved (though you can still edit lights through Veil's editor). You must also use the Quick Hud to remove lights.

  2. Total Saving "Total Saving" saves all the lights in the world, regardless of where they come from. This lets you add lights through Veil's built in editor, but any lights from other mods that are present at the time of exiting the world will be saved.

You can choose a Save Method in VLU's in game config menu.

Accessing The Quick HUD

The Quick HUD is a new menu integral to the Compatible Saving mode, but also useful to the Total Saving method for taking quick actions to manage nearby lights. The Quick HUD is bound to the "Left Alt" key by default (rebindable in Key Binds) and opens only whilst the key is held since it is meant for quick actions.

Adding Lights

If you've chosen Total Saving, simply open the Veil Editor by clicking "F6" (rebindable in Key Binds), clicking into the Renderer tab, and clicking Light Editor. There you'll be able to select the category of light you want and click "Add Light"

If you've chosen Compatible Saving, hold "Left Alt" to open up the Quick HUD (You must hold the key to keep the menu open) and click either "Area", "Point", or "Directional" under the "Add Lights" label.

Removing Lights

If you've chosen Total Saving, simply click the "X" on the right of the label for the light you want to remove. You can also click the "Remove Lights" button to remove all lights in the selected category just below, or click "Remove All Lights" to remove all lights in the world.

If you've chosen Compatible Saving, open the Quick HUD and click any of the options under the "Remove Lights" label. The numbers "3", "5", "10", and "15" correspond to ranges you can remove lights in. "Directional Lights" removes all directional lights (they don't have a position, so removing within a range doesn't work with them) and "All Lights" remove all lights within the world.

Editing Lights

Both save methods require you to use the built in Veil editor. You can choose the kind of lights you want to show in the list with the "veil:area", "veil:directional", and "veil:point" buttons. You can click on the randomly generated name of each light which will open a dropdown menu of all the light's editable attributes. All the values will save when you leave the world regardless of which saving method you've chosen.
