Branches

Local branches

Foldable list: name, ahead/behind, last update. The title shows the current branch; its sync status (↑ 2) is on the right of the title bar. Row tooltips explain each state in plain words.

Symbol Meaning
↑ ahead
↓ behind
↑↓ diverged
✓ in sync

Button row: Fetch · + (create) · Delete · Delete on origin.

  • Switch: double-click a branch.
  • Create: + opens an inline name row (Enter or Create). Asks for confirmation unless confirm_create_branch is off (Settings).
  • Delete: git branch -d on the selected local, non-current branch, always after a confirmation. No force option: git refuses unmerged branches. If an origin/ copy exists, the dialog and log say it stays on origin.

Remote branches

  • Fetch updates remote info and refreshes the list.
  • Remote-only branches appear in the list. Double-click one to check it out with tracking (switch -c <name> --track origin/<name>).
  • Delete on origin runs only git push origin --delete refs/heads/<name>: never forced, name whitelisted, own confirmation, and the old tip hash is logged so you can restore it with git push origin <sha>:refs/heads/<name>. Server refusals (default or protected branch) are shown as-is.

After a switch

Gitot refreshes only the files git actually changed (no full project rescan) and reloads open scenes. Godot can't reload an open script tab, so a toast warns about scripts changed on disk. Close those tabs before switching. Details and edge cases: Troubleshooting.

You can also create a branch from an issue: see Issues Tracker.
