Hi everyone, MG4Control version 2.6.6 is about to be released with its little batch of new features.
Here's a quick recap of what's been added and what's changing in this version.

As for the changes, the interface has been redesigned for better usability.
The features controlled by MG4Control are now organised into 3 categories: Driving, Safety and Comfort.

The same logic applies to the profile creation screen, and the settings interface has also been reworked to make navigating between the different options easier.

Speaking of settings, there are 2 new features you can enable:

• The "beta" update channel, to get the latest features before the public channel and take part in testing.

• The third-party API, which will let other apps such as KeyMapper use some of MG4Control's features. For security reasons, this option is disabled by default and requires a double confirmation to enable, since any third-party app would then be able to turn certain car options on or off through MG4Control. That's also why only the "comfort" features are accessible to third-party apps.

MG4Control will now also be able to handle new car functions:

• HVAC will be supported, and you'll be able to set up automation based on the outside temperature. Why outside? Because the car's inside temperature can't be retrieved — it's only exposed to the mobile app, so MG4Control has no access to it. You can set a rule for when the temperature is above x°C and/or another for when it's below x°C.

• ESC, along with the drowsiness sensor and its sensitivity level, will also be configurable and can be set per profile.

Thanks for update. Newbie question:
What is the process for installing an update? I recall checking an option in the system to do with auto updates, is that what this does?

Hello @wattmatters, this version hasn't been released on the public channel yet. It's currently only available as a BETA version.
I'm still waiting for feedback from some testers before rolling it out to make sure there are no bugs and that the new features work.

You'll receive the update automatically on your MG4 when the public version is available 😉

Thanks for update. Newbie question: What is the process for installing an update? I recall checking an option in the system to do with auto updates, is that what this does?

Connect to wifi (a warning will appear if you're not on wifi, or if MG4Control checked for updates with the 4G connection, so you might have to recheck for updates after connecting to wifi), check for updates on MG4Control and press download. A file explorer window will appear with the apk file which you can select and then press install to update application. Then there is a cleanup option in MG4Control to remove the apk file that was downloaded.

Wow, all physical buttons, sounds like a great feature update! Thanks for all your work!

First thought: Trying to understand your warning, if I wanted to add a heated seat function by long press of the AC button, that the "factory" short press climate on/off function no longer works. So I would need to create both long press (heated seat) and short press (climate control) shortcuts?

Second thought: that also means if I wanted to add shortcuts for long presses but keep the factory short press functionality, then I'm limited to buttons where MG4Control has actions which are the same as factory:
Steering wheel buttons: I don't think the top two buttons on left or right side have equivalent MG4Control factory actions?
Head unit buttons: AC, front and rear demister, volume up and down have equivalent factory actions.

You're right on both points.
Assigning a button to a new shortcut in MG4Control will automatically disable the button's default functionality. This is necessary so that MG4Control can use the button without triggering the original functions when a user long-presses or double-taps it.

That’s why I’ve added quite a few new types of shortcuts, and there’s still the option to launch other apps—such as the default launcher—if the user wants to use the “Home” button with a long press or double-tap, for example.
