Overview of v0.2.8
More ways to play, easier data updates and another round of fixing things :3
-
Puzzles:
- Puzzle data can now be downloaded and updated separately from the app.
- Opening a puzzle feature now checks for puzzle-data updates, even without a stats-sync account. Installed puzzles stay usable offline.
- Download the data when you first open a puzzle feature, then keep training offline. Updates ask you to close and reopen the app before switching to the new data.
- Improved progress migration when problems change rank or topic, and cleaned up references to removed problems without losing progress on the ones that remain.
- Improved collection results, collection/SRS resume sessions, repeated mistakes and exam history during stats sync.
- Fixed Custom Exam’s Unique tasks only option: it prevents repeats within the current exam while still allowing problems you solved in earlier sessions. Your filters and saved preferences are kept.
-
Tools:
- Joseki:
- The dictionary is now a separate download, offered when you first open Joseki.
- Check for dictionary updates independently of app releases, and browse offline after installation.
- Failed updates keep your existing dictionary available.
- Game Focus:
- You can use separate profiles now. #5
- KataGo:
- Updated the optional large transformer model and the Colab/Modal notebook dependencies.
- Improved model compatibility checks and fixed the Linux OpenVINO fallback download verification.
- KataGo coordinate cycling now follows the app-wide coordinate preference.
- Guide to free cloud hosting your own KataGo
- KataGo Contribute:
- Top-move labels now follow your regular KataGo settings, including letters, score/win-rate metrics and precision.
- Android contribution settings now show remote mode only.
- Optional endpoint login fields stay hidden until enabled, and existing saved credentials are recognised.
- Joseki:
-
Play / Online:
- Variant Server replaces SSGS.
- Browse games, use a guest profile, send invitations, play and return to ongoing games.
- Added multiplayer seats, combined variants, custom/Circloid boards, hidden and Joseki setups, scoring and review.
- Added clock and reconnect handling.
- OGS, KGS and IGS (Pandanet):
- Remember the game-room sidebar width and resize the Players section.
- Added dismissible pass notices above the game navigation controls.
- Improved OGS review navigation, comments, branch deletion and shared variation links.
- Fixed KGS room/watch list updates, repeated joins, chat closing and reconnect state.
- Improved IGS room refreshes and concurrent observations. A failed listing refresh now keeps the room you successfully switched to selected.
- Added a configurable shortcut for cycling move numbers through none, last and all, including OGS reviews. Suggested key: M.
- Removed external review-upload actions from game records and finished games. Use Open in KataGo for analysis inside SWHub.
- Variant Server replaces SSGS.
-
Me:
- Improved cloud stats sync while keeping your existing username and sync key.
- Fixed delayed cloud replies and queued uploads affecting a newly restored account.
- Stats imports preserve all imported fields, local account credentials and sync state. Malformed imports leave existing data intact.
- Improved handling of invalid compressed uploads and protected newer task progress from older app/catalog versions.
-
Other:
- Reorganised keyboard shortcuts into six groups: Global, Board & game tree, Online play, KataGo, Puzzle solving and Study tools. Each action shows where it works.
- App now checks for app updates on launch once 24 hours have passed since the last successful check, instead of once a week.
- Mouse gestures work independently of keyboard shortcut enablement. The FAQ now includes the mouse controls reference.
- Added separate size sliders for custom black and white stone images, with live previews and individual resets.
- Split realistic stone placement into Fuzzy placement and Stone animation, preserving existing preferences. Hover previews stay centered.
- Guide to free cloud hosting your own KataGo
After updating
- Puzzle data and the Joseki dictionary need a first download in v0.2.8. Open the relevant feature while online to install its data. Both work offline afterward.
- After downloading a puzzle-data update, follow the prompt to close and reopen the app so it can activate the update and migrate your progress.
- Keep using your existing stats-sync username and key.
- Update your other devices before syncing with the new task data. Once an account adopts the new catalog, its other devices need a compatible app and current task data. Older clients without supported sync must upgrade; offline progress stays local until you update and sync.
Excluded
These aren't available in the packages listed below and are only for my friends or coffee supporters
- My personal 350k~ Pro games Pattern Search database. I have about 80k more games to add, so please wait while I fix some other matters as adding games to the db takes a while cause I try to cleanup the metadata as much as possible.
- Teaching Rooms
- FoxWQ
Future
Might do some frequent updates this month. As now I won't have to make an app update just to update the puzzles or joseki. So some related and unrelated bugs may show up and require hunting.
