Automated security fix generated by OrbisAI Security
The code allocates fixed-size heap buffers (150 bytes at line 121, 250 bytes at line 149) and then uses sprintf to write SQL query strings into them without any bounds checking

this is valid, i like using asprintf where I can. can you remove the test c code, i really don't have a good place to put that? |
Reviewer noted there is no good place for test C code in this repo. The asprintf-based security fixes in hoeldb.c remain intact. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Summary
Fix critical severity security issue in
src/simmonitor/db/hoeldb.c.Vulnerability
V-001src/simmonitor/db/hoeldb.c:121Description: The code allocates fixed-size heap buffers (150 bytes at line 121, 250 bytes at line 149) and then uses sprintf to write SQL query strings into them without any bounds checking. The query string at line 125 is approximately 120 bytes with a small integer, but with larger integer values or if the format string is modified in future maintenance, the 150-byte buffer can be overflowed. The 250-byte buffer at line 152 contains a query of approximately 140 bytes, providing more margin but still lacking safety guarantees. This is inconsistent with other parts of the same file that correctly use asprintf for dynamic allocation.
Evidence
Exploitation scenario: If the use_id parameter takes on large integer values (which are valid int values), or if the code is modified to include additional query parameters,...
Scanner confirmation: multi_agent_ai rule
V-001flagged this pattern.Production code: This file is in the production codebase, not test-only code.
