New python bindings #203
Description
The python_ext part of the repo has been almost completely untouched for 5 years now. It would be very difficult to bring it back, since the ext API changed considerably, and we would probably want to upgrade to pyo3 0.25 also.
If we want python bindings, which I personally do, I think the cleanest way is to restart from scratch and use python_ext for inspiration. We should also decide what the API should be.
In the meantime, officially getting rid of python_ext allows us to simplify some parts of the project, as in #202.
