FR: Statistics for Different Activities

Hello, and thank you for this nice little application.

What it does it does well, however I've found that a lot of pomodoro applications seem to lack a way to track stats for different activities, e.g. studying x, studying y, programming, work, etc. If it's beyond the scope of this project I'd understand (and usually I'd agree for a small tool like this), but I really think it would add value to be able to get some insight into the proportion of time spent on multiple activities.

This along with different focus profiles, as has been suggested before, to set, e.g. studying to 25/5, and programming to 40/10, would be nice.

Descriptions/labels/tagging for round types is something I'd like to see in this app. Plenty of people have asked for it, and I can see the use case. The biggest barrier I see to implementing this is around the UI. It poses several problems:

1. Where in the UI is the input located?
2. Is there a character limit to a label/description. How are long pieces of text handled in the UI?
3. Can you provide more than one tag/label to a round? Sometimes as I'm working, I switch tasks either because of a change in urgency, or because I've completed a task before a round is done. This is a round with multiple types.
4. How do we display the history of rounds with labels in a meaningful way to the user?

They're solvable for sure, but require consideration and careful design.

As for the profiles--I like this idea, and have been thinking of adding support for a set of built-in profiles (sprint, pomodoro, deep focus) and the ability to save custom profiles. We'll see when I get around to it...

Just some ideas:

1. I've seen another app just place a drop-down above the timer. Another place could be between the timer and the "play" button.
2. 32-48 for a label should be enough. 512 should be enough for a description. Not sure if a tagging system is really necessary, but if implemented, perhaps instead of e.g. "Programming: Developing App" as a label, simply "Developing App" with a "programming" tag added. An edit popup to edit the activity. The text shown on the UI could scale with the width of the timer circle.
3. Personally, I'd just stop the timer, and switch to a different activity and start that, rather than trying to tag rounds with what you were doing. It seems too micromanaged the way you suggest, if I understand you correctly. In my opinion, the activities would be pretty static once set up with their label, description, and any tags. I could see it possibly working if, for example, during a round you could split the remaining time off to be associated with a different activity, so rather than stopping and starting a new timer just to switch activities, be able to do so on-the-fly without interrupting the rounds. I'd use tags simply for categorising and filtering activities, e.g. for looking at combined stats of activities tagged with x.
4. I don't have much experience with the stats windows since I'm new to your app, but perhaps you're asking about something else. Just putting an idea out there: if we could swap the activity on-the-fly, then the inside of the timer circle could be a pie chart shaded in different translucent colours to show the proportion of how we've spent our time this session. Resets with each reset. These proportions could be represented in the stats view by browsing some time period at a later time.

The terminology of activities is what some other pomodoro apps have called tasks. Whichever terminology is chosen, it needs to be clear. For example, I think "profile" would better suit an activity and timer preset combined. And yes, "presets" for the different timers you listed.

Thanks for the info and ideas. I'll see about trying out a few different Pomodoro apps for inspiration and to see how they handle tasks/labels, input, and visualization. I'm open to the idea of implementing this, at least to try it out.

I did a silly pomodoro app some months ago and it includes project tracking and some statistics, it was vibecoded for fun though, but maybe you can take something from the statistics UI page for pomotroid. just my 2c. I really like pomotroid minimalism
