FAQ

Does InLook send or reply to email? No. It is a viewer only — no accounts, no sending, no mailbox access.

Does it connect to the internet? Not unless you opt in to update checks (Windows). Otherwise it makes no network connection — remote images in emails are blocked too. See Security & privacy.

Why are images in some emails not showing? Remote images (loaded from a server) are blocked on purpose, to stop tracking. Images embedded in the message display normally.

It says WebView2 is missing on Windows. Install the free Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime and reopen the email. Windows 10/11 usually already have it.

Can it open Outlook .msg files? Yes — and .oft templates. See Supported formats.

An old .msg opens with an empty body. That message stores its body only as compressed RTF (rare, old Outlook). Headers and attachments still show. See Supported formats.

How do I make InLook the default for .eml/.msg? Run inlook register (elevated) on Windows, then click Set default. See Installation.

How do I update? winget upgrade StruisICT.InLook, or download the latest release.

Is it really free? Yes — Free Software, dual-licensed MIT OR Apache-2.0.
