Subtitle Edit 5.1.0 is out - just 37 days after the 5.0.0 release, collecting the work of 15 betas and 18 release candidates.
What's new since 5.0.0
Many SE4-parity features restored - shortcuts, column commands, insert subtitle behavior, spell check flow, and much more
Hundreds of stability fixes
AI review (Tools > AI review) and an AI assistant in the subtitle text box - proofread and fix subtitles with a local LLM via llama.cpp or Ollama
Auto-translate: generic OpenAI-compatible engine, remote llama.cpp server option, DeepL formality, and many new local models (TranslateGemma, Gemma 4, Hy-MT2, Qwen 3.5/3.6, Aya Expanse)
Speech to text: MOSS-Transcribe-Diarize with speaker labels, OpenRouter and Alibaba Qwen3-ASR online engines, and new Parakeet/Kyutai/SenseVoice/ARK-ASR models with live progress
Text to speech: new MOSS-TTS engine with zero-shot voice cloning, plus a big window overhaul and bug-fix pass
OCR: new CrispEmbed local engine (GLM-OCR, GOT-OCR2, Qwen3-VL), llama.cpp vision models, and a "Show only forced subtitles" filter
New formats: EBU-TT-D, IMSC 1.1 image profile, and DVD sup (MuxMan/Scenarist) export
macOS multi-window support, SE4-style waveform center/lock scrubbing, and a new tag-coloring text box with working IME/right-to-left/live spell check
Performance: non-English start-up ~3.5x faster, 10-25x faster auto line-breaking, faster grid/waveform rendering and file loading
8 new UI languages (Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Traditional Chinese, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Greek, Thai)
