BioFit AI — Intelligent Health Dashboard

BioFit AI is a modern, polished frontend for tracking nutrition and exercise while delivering AI-powered insights. Built with Vite, React, and Firebase, it blends beautiful data visualizations with intelligent recommendations to help users make informed health choices.

Quick Start (Local Development)

  1. Clone and install
git clone https://github.com/Superior-curtis/BioFitAI.git
cd biofit-dashboard-main
npm ci
  1. Configure environment (required)

Create a .env.local in the project root and add the runtime variables below. NEVER commit this file.

  1. Run the development server
npm run dev

Build for production

npm run build

Deploy Options

  1. Firebase Hosting (recommended if you already use Firebase)
firebase deploy --only hosting
  1. GitHub Pages (via GitHub Actions)

This repository includes a GitHub Actions workflow that builds the site and publishes dist/ to the gh-pages branch. To enable it:

  • Add the following Secrets under your repository Settings → Secrets → Actions:
    • VITE_OPENAI_API_KEY
    • VITE_OPENAI_API_URL (optional)
  • Push to main (or master) — the workflow will build and publish automatically.

Pushing your local changes to GitHub

git add .
git commit -m "Polished README and deploy workflow"
git push -u origin main

Security & Best Practices

  • Never check API keys into your repository. Use .env.local for development and GitHub Actions Secrets for CI builds.
  • Publicly deployed frontend code can expose any embedded key. For production, host the OpenAI key on a secure server or serverless function and proxy AI requests server-side.

  • Edit files directly within the Codespace and commit and push your changes once you're done.
