Blender walkthrough

This is not a Blender tutorial. For that I recommend Blender Guru's tutorial playlists. Especially the Blender Beginner Modeling Tutorial because it shows most of the principles needed for a good saber.

I do, however, want to give a quick walkthrough of the Application Template provided in this repository. This has some settings and layouts preset for easy creation of custom sabers.

Modeling

In the modeling tab, I've set up a few things:

  1. Saber collections
This makes is simpler to keep them apart and work on them separately.
  2. Sample saber
This has all the correct dimensions, and can be followed as an example.
  3. Baking
For making realistic sabers I've setup baking. This allows you to create the required textures. Modeling tab

UV Editing

In the UV Editing tab you'll see that the sample saber is already UV unwrapped. As you can see, the blade is packed smaller than the handle, as this is much less important for textures (in this saber at least). UV Editing tab

Animation

The layout of the animation tab has been altered to give easy access to the action editor, which i used to create multiple different animations in one file. The timeline has also been shortened to 15 frames, as this is long enough for most saber animations. Animation tab
