Which file do I download?

file who it is for what it does
transcript-normalizer-0.8.1-<system>-lite anyone who just wants to use it fetches the platform's captions and fixes domain terms; opens a menu when double-clicked
transcript-normalizer-0.8.1-<system>-full (macOS, Linux) anyone who also has videos without captions, or audio files everything lite does, and also transcribes audio on your computer (the first time, it downloads a 1.5 GB speech model). transcript-normalizer-0.8.1-<sistema>-full (macOS, Linux) quem também tem vídeos sem legenda, ou arquivos de áudio tudo o que o lite faz, e ainda transcreve o áudio no seu computador (na primeira vez, baixa um modelo de fala de 1,5 GB).

2026-10-30. Security updates of filelock and certifi in the executables; transcript-normalizer --version.

  • Security: filelock 4.0.1 → 4.2.1 and certifi 2026.7.22 → 2026.10.23 in uv.lock, so the executables are built with them. filelock (14 advisories, the worst high) comes with faster-whisper, in the full build only; certifi (one critical advisory, emSign root CAs with compromised intermediate keys) comes with curl_cffi, in the lite and full builds. The engine uses neither directly, and pip install resolves its own versions.
  • transcript-normalizer --version prints the installed version, on one line, and exits 0: the one the menu's first screen shows, from the package metadata, which the executables carry. It is in the help's USAGE and in both guides.
  • The tests run from a non-editable install (pip install .) too: the id of the included pack's test case no longer assumes the pack is inside the checkout, which stopped collection with a ValueError.

2026-10-30. Terms that match only exactly, match: exact and case_sensitive (D-090); TRANSCRIPT_NORMALIZER_HOME moves config.toml too (D-089); financas-ptbr 0.4.0 included.

  • A pack term can match only exactly (D-090): match: exact turns off fuzzy, phonetic, inflection and number-word matching for that term, and case_sensitive: [forms] makes the listed forms match only in their own case and accents (Vale the company, not vale a pena). Packs without the field behave as before; a pack that uses it should declare min_engine.
  • TRANSCRIPT_NORMALIZER_HOME now moves config.toml too (D-089): with the variable set, the settings are read from and written to <folder>/config.toml, beside runs/ and packs/, as in the portable folder, and the user settings folder is not touched. Without it nothing changes.
  • The test that packs/ holds no curated pack checks only the files git tracks there, so a pack installed locally (user data, D-088) no longer fails it; without git it is skipped, with the reason.
  • Settings now says where it saves: in <folder>/config.toml with TRANSCRIPT_NORMALIZER_HOME set, in the portable folder's config.toml in portable mode, and in your user settings otherwise. It said "saved in your user settings" in all three.
  • The included pack is now financas-ptbr 0.4.0, the packs repository's (it was 0.3.8): 0.3.9 took out 32 variants that are ordinary words or phrases, too short, or another term's (D-032), and 0.4.0 adds 282 listed companies with match: exact and takes out two aliases of more than 3 words, which never match. It declares min_engine: "0.8.0". With it, against the fixtures' gold: R2Qgz8tFWVI 145 → 123 hits, false positives 13 → 12; wxgFO_fyfXg 211 → 168, 8 → 3; 4tTmY8Buask 108 → 105, 4 unchanged; 4wCtn8BWR4o unchanged (44, 2). All of the change comes from 0.3.9; 0.4.0 measures the same as 0.3.9. The fixtures' frozen packs, and so the regression bounds, are unchanged.

Context-conditioned variants: a form that counts only where other terms of the pack appear (D-086); packs that say which engine they need, min_engine (D-087); no pack installed by default: the bundled one is included, installed when chosen, offline (D-088).

  • The pack shipped inside the program, financas-ptbr, is now included, not installed (D-088). A fresh data folder has no pack installed, and the first screen says "No pack installed yet: you will be asked what the video is about." "What is this video about?" lists the installed packs, then the included ones marked "(included, not installed)", then the packs repository's marked "(from the packs repository)" when it answers, then "Create your own from a template…" and "None / another area"; picking a pack that is not installed installs it, with one line, and normalizes. pack install financas-ptbr works offline (--included skips the repository altogether) and writes the same record as a download, so pack update and pack merge treat it the same; pack update also installs a newer included version after an upgrade, offline. pack list shows installed, included and repository packs, each marked, and still lists the first two when the repository is not reached. Packs → Installed packs shows only installed ones; Get a pack lists included and repository packs, included first; "The pack offered first" appears only with a pack installed, and with one it is that one. Anyone with a pack in packs/ (installed or a copy) sees no change; normalize --pack on the command line still falls back to the included pack.
  • A pack can say which version of transcript-normalizer it needs (D-087): min_engine in the packs index and in the pack file. pack list shows a pack this version cannot use with the reason ("financas-ptbr 0.3.8 needs transcript-normalizer 0.7.0 or later (this is 0.6.5)"); pack install, pack update, the menu's Get a pack and its look for merges never install or offer it; a pack file copied by hand that needs a newer version is refused when loaded, with that line, instead of being half-understood. The index may list a pack in several versions: the newest this version can use is taken, and versions up to 0.6.5 keep the last one listed, so the packs repository can publish financas-ptbr 0.3.8 without older installs getting it.
  • financas-ptbr 0.3.8: OPEX gets Ox back as a variant, only in a video where CAPEX appears (D-086), its first context-conditioned form. R2Qgz8tFWVI regains its three Ox → OPEX rows (142 → 145 hits, false positives unchanged); the street-prank video where Ox was the Northeastern oxe gets nothing. The guides have a paragraph on words that are only an error near other words, and CONTRIBUTING section 2.3a says how to write a context.
  • Writing a context (D-086): pack add-term ... --variant <form> --context <terms> [--unless-near <terms>]; the menu asks, after each variant, whether it is also an ordinary word and which pack terms mark its meaning; the review, after "only in this video", offers to save the form for every video where one of the run's terms appears. A pack whose context names an unknown term or an ordinary word is refused on load. pack propose keeps the context.
  • A pack form can now depend on context (D-086): context: {Ox: [CAPEX]} makes Ox count as OPEX only in a video where CAPEX appears, at least twice (once: asked, not applied; never: not proposed), and unless_near: asks instead of applying when another term is within 90 seconds. Context terms are found only exactly, never by similarity. Packs without it behave as before.

Other sites besides YouTube: their sign-in, login walls and missing captions (D-078, D-079); a review with one stop per form where Enter decides nothing (D-072, D-073); the caption in the video's own language, the channel's own first (D-080, D-081); fewer wrong guesses, from a common-word guard and number words matched as digits (D-083, D-084); applied and suggested counted apart (D-082, D-085).

  • "applied, please confirm N" now counts only the close guesses that are in normalized.txt; names found by sound, which are never applied until you confirm them, have their own line, "suggested, not applied M", in the summary, the menu and report.txt (D-085, amending D-082).
  • Number words from 2 to 20 match their digits (D-084), in Portuguese and English: "BOVA onze" is found as BOVA11, "nove" matches 9, "nine" matches 9. Only for matching: the text is never rewritten from it. "um", "uma" and "one" are not folded.
  • A close guess (fuzzy match) is no longer made when its words include an ordinary word the term does not have (D-083): "impressora que" is left alone instead of becoming "impressora 3D"; "BR Portness" → BR Partners and "fluxo de caixo" → fluxo de caixa still are. Exact, alias and phonetic matches are unaffected. On the fixtures no hit is lost and false positives go from 14 to 12 and 53 to 51 (frozen packs), 15 to 13 and 9 to 8 (bundled 0.3.7); about a third of the low-confidence marks go too.
  • "to confirm N" is now "applied, please confirm N", in the summary and in the report (D-082): the close guesses are already in normalized.txt. The help and both guides say so, and that the review can undo them. The counts are the same.
  • In the video's original language, a caption written by the channel is now taken before YouTube's automatic one, by fetch and as the menu's default (D-081, provisional, amending D-045). The order: the channel's own in the original language, the original audio's automatic one, other languages written by the channel, then automatic dubs and translations. --track still takes exactly the track named. None of the four fixtures has a manual track, so nothing changes for them.
  • fetch without --lang takes the video's own language, as the site reports it, instead of always pt (D-080). When the site does not say: the video's only original-audio track, else its only manual track, else pt, with a line saying the language is unknown. --lang still wins.
  • A link the downloader does not support says "This site isn't supported. Download the video another way and use 'A file on this computer'." instead of yt-dlp's "Unsupported URL" and a failure line (D-079).
  • A site that gives no duration (Instagram) shows "duration: unknown" instead of "0min00s"; after transcribing, the audio's measured length is shown and written to meta.yaml, which now records the duration whenever it is known (D-079).
  • fetch on a site with no captions at all says " doesn't provide captions for this video." instead of "there is no caption in 'pt' … (manual: none; automatic: none)"; the detailed line stays when there are captions in other languages (D-079).
  • "How does this work?" in the sign-in list now speaks of any site: YouTube's check usually depends on the connection, Instagram's and Facebook's often on the video. Both guides say Kwai is not supported (yt-dlp has no extractor for it).
  • Other sites (D-078). The sign-in is now "Sign-in (your browser's login)" and is used for every site, not only YouTube; a setting saved under the old name still works. A site that asks for a login (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, Vimeo, private or followers-only videos) is said plainly: "Instagram asked you to sign in for this video.", or, when a sign-in is already set, "The browser you chose (Firefox) may not be signed in to Instagram. …", with the same ways out as YouTube's bot check (exit code 3).
  • A link with no captions (most sites other than YouTube) goes straight to transcribing in the full build; the lite build says " doesn't provide captions for this video. The full build can transcribe its audio on this computer." and stops, with no error.
  • The downloaded audio is now deleted once the transcription is written; Settings → "Keep the audio after transcribing", or fetch --keep-audio, keeps it in the run folder as <video id>.<ext>. Until now it stayed as audio.<ext>.
  • fetch --list <url> is a quick check of a link on any site, without downloading: site, title, duration, caption tracks or none, whether there is audio, and whether the site asked for a login.
  • After a review, only the questions that make sense (D-077): "learned layer written to …" appears only when the review changed it, and "Contribute what you taught the tool?" only when this review added or changed something there; answers that were all "only in this video" or "decide later" bring neither. "Add a term you noticed?" and "Open the folder?" are asked once each, in that order.
  • The YouTube sign-in list shows the browsers found on this computer (D-077), including Firefox from snap or flatpak on Linux: Firefox, one "Chromium-based browser" row (a short list when there are several), Safari on macOS, a cookies.txt file, None, and "How does this work?". The "usually cannot be read" warning on Chromium-based browsers appears on Windows only.
  • The review no longer rejects by Enter (D-072). A real review of 4tTmY8Buask rejected two terms when the user pressed Enter to skip a screen. The menu's review and normalize --review now stop once at each uncertain form, in the order of the video, with one question whose default is "Decide later": "Yes: this is (fix it from now on)", "Yes, but only in this video", "This is , said that way (recognise it, keep the text)", "No: this is not ", "Decide later". Only "No" rejects. Each stop shows the line before, the line with the form highlighted and the line after, the other times the form occurs, and a link that opens a YouTube video at that moment. Nothing is written until the end: a summary ("will remember … rejected … only in this video … left for later") and "Save these answers?"; no discards them all.
  • "Only in this video" (D-073): kept in runs/<id>/local-decisions.yaml and applied when that run is normalized; never in the learned layer, a pack or a contribution. --confirm gains o for it.
  • Dubbed videos (D-074): YouTube's automatic dubs add a caption track per dubbed audio. The video's own language is now the original: listed first and the default, the dubs named ", dubbed audio (automatic)", then English, then the rest. fetch --list shows them as dubbed:...

YouTube's bot check said plainly, and a YouTube sign-in for it (D-071); normalizing about three times faster with identical results; the menu no longer waits for the network at startup.

  • On Windows, pack propose --whole wrote the contribution file with Windows line endings, so it was not the pack file byte for byte; it is now copied as it is.
  • Test builds: the release workflow can be started by hand (Actions → release → Run workflow) on any commit. It builds and tests the same executables, named after the commit, and keeps them as workflow artifacts <sha>-<os>-<flavor>; no tag check, no Release. Tag pushes release as before.
  • --gold-draft, the old name of --corrections, is removed (D-023, amended); it was kept far longer than its one release.
  • Docs: the pip install lines point at v0.6.3 instead of v0.4.2, whose ingest extra lacked D-058's faster-whisper/av bounds. GUIDE §8 and the README's Status give the current measured numbers and name scripts/measure.py as their source. The ask band (D-060) is documented. Smaller fixes to sample output, the merge backup name, the phonetic classes in CONTRIBUTING and the release page's Windows full row.
  • Residue removed after the 2026-10 inspection (docs/INSPECTION-2026-10.md): the unused contains_words and its test, META_FIELDS, evaluate's two one-line wrappers; fits() is now what normalize and measure.py call. Tests share one bundled-pack fixture and cache the fixture's medium band, which they used to recompute per call.
  • Tests pin three matcher rules no test covered: D-047's ranking (a canonical term at 80 beats a variant at 84 for the same span) and the D-040 and D-049 guards, before and after overlap resolution, including the case that shows why they are needed (a rejection that removes the longer name). Matching is unchanged.
  • Normalizing is about three times faster, with byte-identical results: each caption window is compared only with the pack forms that can match it (its exact equals, and fuzzy forms within two letters of its length, D-005), and the phonetic pass no longer checks every window against every applied change, which made it quadratic in caption length. wxgFO_fyfXg (40 min): 2.29 s → 0.69 s; the same caption four times over: 13.2 s → 3.2 s.
  • The menu never waits for the packs repository at startup (D-069, amended). It looks for pack updates in the background, keeps the index for a day in packs/.index-cache.json (inside the folder in portable mode), and when a copy of yours can be merged it says so in one line and offers "Merge an update" in Packs, instead of asking "Merge?" on the first screen. Offline with a copy, the first screen went from 3.2 s to 0.2 s.
  • YouTube's bot check is said plainly (D-071). Instead of yt-dlp's raw "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot. Use --cookies-from-browser or --cookies", fetch says "YouTube asked to confirm you are not a bot. This depends on your connection, not on the video." (and, for an age check or a members-only video, that YouTube asks for a signed-in account), stops, and exits 3. The menu then offers: use your browser's YouTube sign-in (cookies), try again later, use a file from this computer, or back.
  • YouTube sign-in (D-071): Settings → YouTube sign-in takes a browser (Firefox first; Chrome and Edge on Windows usually cannot be read), a cookies.txt file, or none. fetch --cookies-from-browser <browser> and fetch --cookies <file> do the same for one run and win over Settings; in portable mode a cookies.txt in data/ is used without asking. config.toml keeps only the browser's name or the file's path; yt-dlp reads the cookies itself, and no file the tool writes holds one. A browser that cannot be read is named, with Firefox or a cookies.txt as what to try. Help and both guides have a "YouTube says I'm a bot" section with how to export cookies.txt.

A Windows installer and a portable build (D-070). Nothing changes in how captions are normalized.

  • Windows full is now two downloads. -windows-full-setup.exe, an installer: choose where it goes, for you only (no administrator) or for all users; Start menu shortcut, optional desktop shortcut; a clean uninstall from "Add or remove programs" that keeps your files and says so. -windows-full-portable.zip: unzip anywhere, e.g. a USB drive, and delete the folder to remove it. The plain windows-full zip is gone; lite, macOS and Linux are unchanged.
  • Portable mode: with portable.txt beside the program (any build, lite too), everything stays in its data folder: runs, packs, settings, the speech model (HF_HOME), yt-dlp's cache and whatever its JavaScript runtime writes. Settings says "portable mode: everything stays in " and has no folder dialog. TRANSCRIPT_NORMALIZER_HOME still wins.
  • The release runner installs, runs and uninstalls the installer silently, and checks that the portable build writes only inside its folder.

Three-way pack merge (D-069).

  • A copy of a pack (pack copy, or the menu's copy before editing) records based_on: <name>@<version> and local_edits, and keeps its base in packs/.bases/. Every saved edit counts.
  • When upstream (the bundled pack or the packs repository) is newer than a copy's base, the menu's first screen asks "Merge?", Installed packs shows ↑ merge available, and pack update says so. Nothing is merged unasked.
  • pack merge <name> [--dry-run] [--yes-theirs | --yes-mine]: by canonical term, three-way with the base (two-way for a copy from before 0.6.2, which then gains a base). Conflicts are asked one at a time with both versions and lines from your runs: keep mine (m), take theirs (t), keep both (k, when compatible), decide later (l, recorded in <name>.merge-pending.yaml).
  • Before writing: a <name>.yaml.bak-<timestamp> backup, and the result checked as normalize loads it. A summary of what was added, updated, kept, combined and removed, the conflicts, and where the learned layer (never changed) now repeats or contradicts the pack.
  • pack propose --whole on a copy proposes only its changes since the base: ": N additions from ".

Editing packs (D-066), contributing a whole pack (D-067), English and phonetic classes (D-068).

  • Packs → Edit a pack: add a term (class from the pack's classes, aliases, variants one per line), edit a term, remove a term, show terms (paged, searchable). A bundled or repository pack is read-only; the menu offers your own copy first. Every change is checked and saved with the next patch version. A variant under 3 letters is refused (D-005); a variant made of ordinary words is saved with a warning (D-032). Commands: pack copy, pack add-term, pack edit-term, pack remove-term, pack show.
  • "Add a term you noticed", offered after Normalize and in Show a run's outputs: the wrong form (with up to five of the run's lines containing it), what it should be, then a variant or alias of an existing term, or a new term; then an offer to normalize the run again.
  • Packs → Export a pack file and pack export <name> [--to <path>]: <name>-<version>.yaml.
  • Packs → Contribute a pack and pack propose --whole <name>: the pack's summary, a question, contributions/<name>-<version>.yaml, and a prefilled issue "New pack: " or "Update: " with the file in the body, collapsed.
  • An English language module: folding, plurals (-s, -es, -ies), bn/B and mn/M after a number as billion and million, sentence punctuation. The menu passes --allow-generic, with a notice, only for a language that still has no module.
  • phonetic_classes: per pack: which classes the phonetic source compares (default pessoa, organizacao, and companhia where declared). The medicina, tecnologia and esportes templates set their own. Pack 0.3.7: financas-ptbr declares D-050's companhia and pessoa; nothing it matches changes. Created packs record their field:.

Which file do I download?

file who it is for what it does
transcript-normalizer-0.6.0-<system>-lite anyone who just wants to use it fetches the platform's captions and fixes domain terms; opens a menu when double-clicked
transcript-normalizer-0.6.0-<system>-full anyone who also has videos without captions, or audio files everything lite does, and also transcribes audio on your computer (the first time, it downloads a 1.5 GB speech model). On Windows and macOS, a .zip: unzip, then open transcript-normalizer.exe inside the folder (transcript-normalizer on macOS)
transcript_normalizer-0.6.0-py3-none-any.whl, .tar.gz Python developers the package, for pip install

<system> is windows, macos (Apple silicon) or linux; Linux executables run on glibc 2.35 or newer (Ubuntu 22.04 and later). The executables are not signed, so Windows and macOS will warn the first time; the SHA-256 of every file is at the end of this page.

Qual arquivo baixar?

Packs for other fields: classes per pack (D-064), field templates and a Packs menu (D-065).

  • A pack declares its classes (classes: [farmaco, doenca]). pessoa, organizacao, sigla and unidade are allowed in every pack. A term with any other class is an error at load, naming the file and the term. A pack with no classes: line keeps the eight finance classes, so every existing pack still loads. Pack 0.3.6: financas-ptbr declares its eight; no term changes.
  • Ten field templates: financas, medicina, direito, tecnologia, engenharia, educacao-ciencias, esportes, politica-governo, agro, geral. Each gives a new pack its classes and no terms.
  • Menu item 6, Packs: Installed packs, Get a pack, Create a pack, Import a pack file, Remove a pack, and The pack offered first (moved from Settings). Settings is now 7 and only the folder; Help is 8.
  • New commands: pack list --installed (version, language, terms, size, source, and ↑ update when the packs repository has a newer version; offline, no wait over 3 seconds), pack create --template <field> --name <n> --lang <l>, pack import <file>, pack remove <name> (never a bundled pack; the learned layer is kept).
  • When a pack does not fit, the menu says "Pick another pack, or get or create one in Packs."
  • D-063 records the 0.5.3 measurements: help on windows-full in 5.78, 5.59, 5.13 s as one file, 0.30, 0.29, 0.28 s as a folder; the Linux runner has glibc 2.35.

Packaging (D-063), and four fixes from the last Windows run.

  • The full executables for Windows and macOS are a folder, shipped as a zip (transcript-normalizer-0.5.3-windows-full.zip): unzip, then open transcript-normalizer.exe inside the folder (transcript-normalizer on macOS). As one file, the full build unpacked about 100 MB to a temporary folder on every start, which made it slow to open on Windows. lite stays one file, and so does Linux full. The release runner measures help's start time against 0.5.2's one-file build.
  • The Linux executables are built on Ubuntu 22.04 (glibc 2.35), so they run on 22.04-based systems such as Zorin 17; 0.5.2's needed the glibc of the newest runner.
  • The file dialog opens on "All supported (audio, video, captions)"; the separate filters are still there.
  • Automatic translations in the track list carry "(translations are rate-limited more often)".
  • A chosen option is echoed by its label, without its description.
  • Checked: when a pack does not fit, normalized.txt is written with the input's text, line for line (D-054); a test now says so.
