- A game, toy, or problem designed to test ingenuity or knowledge. (Oxford)
- A question, problem, or contrivance designed for testing ingenuity (Merriam Webster)
Overall: A puzzle involves a goal that involves a problem can be reached with a solution that involves multiple elements
Research existing physics-based puzzle games. What elements (technical and user experience) do you need to consider?
- Levels with goals
- Parts at player's disposal to complete the level
- Elements can place anywhere
- Connect with each other
- Interact with each other and the world
- Puzzle solutions require use of game’s physics system
- Physics system:
- gravity
- momentum
- velocity
- acceleration
- mass
- collisions

| Game | USP |
|---|---|
| Cut The Rope | Give an alien his candy by cutting ropes |
| Where Is My Water | Dig earth away to carry water to the crocodile |
| Brain Dots | Use a pencil to draw shapes that gt affected by physics and make 2 colored circle touch |
| Poly Bridge | Make a bridge to can hold the required amount of vehicles so they can get to the other side |
| RE:RUN | Go through the level by getting to the required power |
| Angry Birds | Kill the pigs by shooting birds and knocking down buildings |
| Fantastic Contraption | Classic Many fun levels that you have to beat by combining a few parts |
| Portal 2 | Use a portal gun to solve puzzles and defeat the evil robot |
| World of Goo | An intricate bridge builder simulator with many different types of bridge parts, game mechanics |
| The Incredible Machine | Many fun levels that you have to beat by combining a few parts |

Space game which involves slinging a satellite using the planets’ gravitational pull
- Worm holes can teleport the satellite
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g96--rkJqcQ take this, but then replace the laser with a bouncing ball extra mechanics we could add:
- global level gravity that affects the ball while it's going through its path
- black holes that suck in the balls
- bouncy pads
- portals

A game where you shoot atoms into other atoms to create molecules. Mechanics:
- atoms always move with time
- time stops if the player stops
- a list of molecules the player has to make
- if the player adds to many atoms to a molecule, the molecule is ruined
- too many ruined molecules lead to a fail state
We chose concept 3, because it seemed the most fun, as well as fitting the best with our target audience
Our target group is high schoolers. Currently this has come from our research about high schoolers:
- Age: 14-18
- Budget: 230 euro's per month, on average
- Weaknesses: short concentration span
- Strengths: a lot of energy
- Likes and wants: free time, pass school, play games, hang out, stickers, activism
- Dislikes: learning without interactivity, unclear explanations, homework
Because our game also teaches the players how certain molecules are formed as well as what atoms are inside what molecules.
