Using TransitSync

This is a small tutorial to getting started using TransitSync. You can find the website here!

0. Using the Map

To move the map around, click and drag (or just drag on mobile) to slide the map to a new position. When you let go, the map will refresh to show the stops and buses in this area. You can also click the zoom buttons (top left) to zoom in and out, or click the compass to move the map to your current location (requires you to give location permissions, which will pop-up when you click this).

1. Stops

You can find a stop by navigating around the map. Click the stop to show a brief detail of the buses to come. Then click "More Departures" to show a larger view of the buses and when they will leave the stop. Only the first 100 buses (maximum) or the first day (with some operators) is shown. They are shown in the order provided by the operators' dataset. Clicking on each departure will open the bus view.

2. Buses

You can find a bus on the map by moving it to the current position of the bus. Clicking on the bus will reveal a popup showing where the bus is headed, as well as a line on the map displaying its route. Click on "More Info" to show the list of stops the bus will stop at. This will also place a line on the map that will not disappear when you move it again. Some operators provide different datasets, so the data available here may vary!

Top Tip: On mobile, use the screen in landscape mode to show both the stops list and the map!

3. Alerts

Click the bell button on the bottom left to show all the disruption alerts. This will display the currently published alerts from all the operators.

Additional notes about update speed.

The map fetches new data every time you stop moving it. The operators will often cache data, meaning it may take some time to load. TransitSync tries to fetch the latest data, but caches some bus data too to reduce how much bandwidth we use.
