The Near Future Lab

The Near Future Lab

The execution arm of The Near Future Advisory.

We build software, systems, and products at the frontier of memory, reasoning, language, and intelligent systems.

The Lab exists to turn strong technical ideas into real artefacts: robust infrastructure, thoughtful tools, and carefully designed products that make intelligence more useful.

What we work on

  • Memory systems for agents
  • Semantic retrieval and reasoning infrastructure
  • Language and learning tools
  • Applied AI products with strong technical foundations
  • Software that prizes clarity, reliability, and good taste

Featured project

A production-grade memory substrate for agents and reasoning systems.

Neural Ledger explores how memory can be structured, retrieved, linked, and reasoned over with greater reliability. It combines semantic retrieval, graph-aware relationships, and an inspectable architecture designed for serious intelligent systems.

Highlights

  • Agent memory infrastructure
  • Semantic and graph-aware retrieval
  • Inspectable, extensible system design
  • Public open-source project

Neural Ledger is currently maintained as a flagship project by Alfie Walker and featured as part of The Near Future Lab portfolio.

How we think

We care about systems that are not merely clever, but dependable.

That means:

  • strong technical foundations
  • clear abstractions
  • deliberate product design
  • intelligence that can be inspected, trusted, and improved

The aim is durable capability: software that helps people think better, build better, and work with machines more effectively.

Relationship to The Near Future Advisory

The Near Future Advisory is the strategic layer.
The Near Future Lab is the execution layer.

The Advisory develops the thesis, direction, and perspective.
The Lab designs, builds, and ships the software.

Current portfolio

  • Neural Ledger — memory infrastructure for agents and reasoning systems

More projects will be added over time.
