The first thing we see is a brief description in the top left, it is circled in red. It tells you the state and cause of death selected, as well as giving you a brief summary of the elements on the page.

state 1 Below the description, there is a map. This map displays the counties by their "risk group" (typically high, medium, or low). The map is also interactive. If you click on a county the death rates from 2000-2017 will appear as a grey line on the graph next to the map. If you hover your mouse over a county, the name will pop up, along with some basic information. If no grey line appears, it means that some data was unavailable for that county.

state 2 On the top of the center portion, you will notice a map in shades of red. The shades of red indicate the intensity of death for a particular county. The key is also provided immediately below. For counties where data was missing, the values were imputed. This map is also interactive. If you click on one of the year buttons, it will change its' coloring to match the death rates for the particular year range that was selected.

state 3 On the bottom of the center portion, there is a line graph. This shows death rates for the cause selected for the clustered (or unclustered) counties. The blue line is the national average rate of death overtime. The orange/red lines are the cluster average rates, or individual county rates if there were not enough counties to cluster. If you wish to see an individual county, select it on the map in the bottom left.

state 4 On the far right side, you will see a lollipop chart. This shows the results from our Kendall Tau analysis. In other words, we can see the top fifteen social or economic factors related to our cause of death. If you hover your mouse over the round portion of one factor, a pop up with information should appear.

state 5 If you click on the round portion of a factor, it will take you to the next page, which will have an in-depth look at the factor you clicked on. If you simply wish to turn the page, the blue arrow on the left will return you.
