External Audio (1.1.0) - Compatibility

This thread should highlight the tested external Audio Interfaces, if they work, what issues they have.

Interface Requirements

• Needs to be class-compliant
• Needs to support 48kHz Sample Rate (v1.1.1 adds a compatibility mode for 44.1kHz only devices like the Dirtywave M8)
• Must have at least 1 Input and 2 Outputs (stereo)
• If Bus-powered make sure it draws less than 5W. If in doubt use an powered USB-Hub

From a quick test, but the NeuralDSP Quad Cortex seems to work (only tested the main mix so far).

RME Fireface UCX II works a dream. Shows 20 audio channels with the bonus of having its own small screen to show audio levels.

Arturia MINIFUSE 2 seems to work.

Issues:
Playback/Monitoring via Headphone output on the interface causes nasty artefacts (if you like bitcrusher-effects, then this is a feature).

Playback/Monitoring via Track8 output (Internal Monitoring is ON) causes stuttering if the Sample amount is set too low.

Track8 crashes, when Audio is copied to the clipboard and the user then navigates to the File-Browser. This causes the unit to freeze with a white/grey screen. This may be a bug - have to test for consistency. (The Arturia Minifuse 2 - and others have a USB-Hub build in, hence the File-Browser can be opened.)

As mentioned in the table, I also has bad results with the Arturia AudioFuse 16Rig. This one didn't even show up as an audio interface. Only as an Midi Interface.

The bitcrushed effect sounds like the results I got with the TonexOne ... this one just didnt support 48kHz and was running at 44,1kHz when the software was expecting a higher samplerate.

Are you sure the MiniFuse2 is class-compliant? I dont see it mentioned in the manual.
And for MacOS/Windows you need to download a special software.... thats always a bad sign.

My guess is: MidiFuse2 boots up at 44,1kHz and the Arturia software is used to switch sample rates on Windows/MacOS.
SampleRate probably can't be set though the class-compliant USB standard.

I just checked, there is a MidiFuse 2 OTG with an USB connector for iPads ... this one is probably class-compliant ... just not the standard MidiFuse2

The Minifuse 2 supports up to 192 kHz.
Maybe it is due to not being class compliant.
Could not find any hints on class compliance in the manual either.

I was wondering, why there was such a marketing talk about it being cc, as i thought the OG Minifuse 2 was cc too.

Steinberg UR44C works fine.

I could only find one issue:
If the Sample Buffer Size is set to 64 (or below 80) with INTERNAL MONITORING set to ON, then some stuttering occurs.
Other than that, operation is stable with any other setting (e.g. Buffer Size set to 64 with INTERNAL MONITORING set to OFF).

I usually run my Behringer XR18 and Motu Ultralite MK5 at 128 or 144 samples. These seem to be rock solid. Below that you can get artifacts when recording 8 tracks simultaneously with all effects enabled on all tracks.
When I find the time i'll try do do another round of optimizations to push the limit further down.

Edit:
RME Fireface UFX III does work, but it is required to explicitly set the FW-Mode (Interface Mode) of the device to CC.
When set to CC, then the decive works fine. Even with lowest buffer size of 64 and internal monitoring active.
Setting is accessible via SETUP/REV ---> Options ---> Hardware/Diagnosis ---> Interface Mode [CC].

Comment before edit:
RME Fireface UFX III does not work.
UFX III recognises that there is a HOST-Device connected.
Track8 does not recognise that there is an Audio-Interface connected.
Maybe due to USB 3.0.

Regarding the RME UFX III
In the manual I found:

Die Werkseinstellung des Interface Mode, Auto, sorgt für eine automatische Erkennung der Verbindung zum Computer mit USB 3 und USB 2.
Im Fall von Class Compliant muss dieser Modus manuell gewählt werden. Dies geschieht über SETUP/REV, Options, Hardware/Diagnosis, Interface Mode.

I'm investigating the Internal Audio stutter, but I always get stutter at 64 samples. Regardless of the Internal Audio settings.
I'll see if I can reduce the overall latency to get stable audio at 64.

@DieEidDie I published v1.1.0-beta14 that addresses the internal monitoring and latency in general. Looking forward if this improves your Internal Monitoring situation.

With the new automation feature I had to employ quite a bit of audio path optimization. But now also 48 samples should be quite possible on light projects.
