Installation

Download the installer for your system from the latest release.

System File Installs to
macOS, Apple silicon (M1 and later) Inkhue-vX.Y.Z-macos-arm64.pkg Applications
macOS, Intel Inkhue-vX.Y.Z-macos-x64.pkg Applications
Windows 10 / 11, 64-bit Inkhue-vX.Y.Z-windows-x64-setup.exe your user's programs folder, or Program Files if you choose "all users"
Ubuntu / Debian, x86-64 Inkhue-vX.Y.Z-linux-x64.deb /opt/Inkhue, with an app-menu entry and an inkhue command

Not sure which Mac you have? Apple menu → About This Mac: "Chip: Apple M…" means Apple silicon.

First launch

The installers are not signed with a paid certificate, so your system asks once.

macOS — open the .pkg. macOS says it can't verify the developer. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, click Open Anyway, enter your password, then follow the installer. You only do this once; updates install themselves without a password.

Windows — run the setup.exe. If SmartScreen appears, click More info → Run anyway. No administrator rights are needed unless you install for all users.

Ubuntu / Debian — sudo apt install ./Inkhue-*.deb, or double-click the file. Scanning needs SANE: sudo apt install sane-utils.

Updates

Inkhue checks for a newer release when it starts and every six hours. It downloads the new installer in the background, checks it against the release's SHA256SUMS.txt, and asks whether to restart now or install when you quit.

  • macOS: no password needed.
  • Windows: the installer runs silently and reopens Inkhue.
  • Linux: you're asked for your password (the package is installed system-wide).

Pre-releases are never offered as updates.

Verifying a download (optional)

Every file is listed in SHA256SUMS.txt and has a GitHub build-provenance attestation:

shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS.txt
gh attestation verify Inkhue-vX.Y.Z-macos-arm64.pkg -R TonyD365/Inkhue

Uninstalling

  • macOS: drag Inkhue from Applications to the Trash.
  • Windows: Settings → Apps → Inkhue → Uninstall.
  • Linux: sudo apt remove inkhue.

Upgrading from ColorHide 1.0: install Inkhue, then remove the old ColorHide app. ColorHide 1.0 can't update itself across the rename.
