Troubleshooting

Work down the list; most problems are in the first three.

"Page frame not found" / "timing track not found"

  • The whole black frame must be in the scan, with some white around it. Rescan with a larger area.
  • Remove strong shadows or dark backgrounds touching the frame (scanner lid open, book gutter).
  • Check that the scan isn't heavily cropped or rotated by more than a few degrees.

"No hidden color"

  • Was the page made with Inkhue? A normal printout has nothing to reveal: load the original in Hide color, print the page Inkhue makes, and scan that.
  • If the message mentions a low dpi, rescan at 600 dpi (at least 400) in grayscale.

"Partly restored" / some areas stay gray

Areas whose data was too damaged to correct are left in black and white instead of being filled with random color. Rescan more carefully, or print larger for more redundancy.

Still no color: check printing and scanning

  1. Was it printed at 100 %? "Fit to page" or a scaled PDF is the most common cause. Reprint from Inkhue's print panel with Actual size.
  2. Scan resolution: use 600 dpi (at least 400) in grayscale.
  3. Scanner processing: turn off sharpening, descreen/moiré removal, auto-enhance and text modes.
  4. Printer: use 600 dpi, highest quality, plain paper; switch off toner saving and photo enhancement.
  5. Print bigger: larger prints repeat the color more often and tolerate more damage.

The color comes back noisy

  • Turn on Neural refiner in the app (it's on by default when the model is present).
  • Laser prints give cleaner results than inkjet.

Printing problems

  • A shared printer shows "not responding": the computer sharing it may be asleep. Basic options are offered and the job can still be queued.
  • The page "doesn't fit": choose larger paper, smaller margins, fewer pages per sheet, or a smaller print width.

The app doesn't open

  • macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (once).
  • Windows: SmartScreen → More info → Run anyway.
  • Linux: install libxcb-cursor0 and libegl1 if Qt reports missing libraries.

Still stuck? Open a bug report with your system, Inkhue version and what the LCD said.
