Reduce NPM footprint

We're currently benefitting from the convenience of the underlying NPM ecosystem. NPM packages are also a large attack surface, especially when it comes to supply chain attacks. As Troupe module system evolves, we should focus on eliminating external dependencies. This is a long-term goal, and we can use this thread for referencing the progress towards it.
