Modbus command hold function

Now that in the new app update you can select a longer duration under manual control for example for hold battery, self-consumption, charge, etc. is it possible to do this via a Modbus command and specify, for example, 6 hours, and if you later want to return to automatic control, can you also switch it back using a Modbus command?

This would be very welcome if it’s possible over Modbus.
At the moment I can sort-of do this by enabling Remote EMS mode, but when I disable Remote EMS the Sigenergy always reverts to “Self consumption” (not the previously selected mode)

Being able to set the hold time via Modbus would be a big help

If all you want to do is hold the battery, then I think there is a workaround for this: while you can't send a "hold" command over Modbus, you can turn the inverter on & off (which is a brute force way to achieve effectively the same thing).

The entity for this is switch.sigen_inverter_inverter_power

Unlike switch.sigen_plant_remote_ems_controled_by_home_assistant, which always reverts to "Self consumption" mode, the inverter power switch resumes back to the previously selected control mode.

You can hold the battery by changing the battery discharge limit and setting to 0W.

Same in reverse for charge limit to 0W, such as if you wanted to prioritise sending the PV production to the grid early in the morning, that would allow doing then when export FIT$ is high(er. Instead of the current situation we're the battery charges first, you miss out on any FIT$, then the battery is full and the FIT is $ and the PV production is curtailed.

Unfortunately Sigenergy has linked the set to g of these (and other values like PV Max Power) to ONLY work when EMS Node is in mode 3,4,5,6 etc (ie Force Charge/Discharge).

Sigenstor also need to add the option in their AI, to dynamically calculate the charge rates required to fully charge the battery by say 80% of the day through the forecast PV kWh for the day, allowing the battery to charge slower times versus the day, allowing energy to be exported early and also (importantly) keeping battery temperatures lower and reducing wear / promoting longer battery life.

I'm also interested in this function. Does anyone know if you use the above workaround will the Sig System still work as a backup for Grid failure while in this mode?

Oh, I hadn't realised that I could enable these parameters in HomeAssistant! I thought they were disabled by Sigen.
Yes, that is a good idea. By manually enabling this parameter, I can now change this setting with an automation. That is better than shutting the inverter down completely.

@clanger9 Have you tried to set Sigen Plant ESS Discharge Cut-Off State of Charge to 100% , this would stop discharge of batteri when charging your ev. When it is done you change it back 0%. This seems to work with AI mode.

But wouldnt that still disable the grid backup functionality? If the power cuts then the system won't go into Island mode as the theres no room for the SOC to move.

Hi @Mheel80 [First post] My Sigenergy is new to me as is HA. Not wanting to get into AI control just yet I've tried this setting against TOU and Max Self Consumption, set Discharge Cut-Off State to 100%, and in both cases charging started. In both cases the actual SOC was 48% and not in a TOU charge window. I'm guessing if SOC not at 100, it wants to get to 100 and then not discharge. Is this setting AI mode specific, e.g. the AI mode has some other considerations that prevents the battery trying to charge. I know I should just try AI, but I'm in limbo with switching to Octopus Outgoing Agile and I don't want to experiment with AI until the export product is enabled and also prevent discharging into the EV.

I have this working now. I created a "Battery hold" template switch via the Helper GUI.
It then appears as a handy switch object in the Sigen Plant device and you can toggle it without messing up AI mode operation.

Unfortunately, because it was created in the GUI I can't figure out how to share the YAML code. Here are the steps:
