[Feature Request]: `<ui5-table-cell>` should support `colspan`

Feature Request Description

In standard HTML it's possible to set a colspan on a td. Actually with colspan it's possible to grow a table cell to cover 2 or more table cells in a row to keep the same cell count per tr.

Proposed Solution

In my opinion the solution should be easy. Since <ui5-table-cell> covers a td. So it's only needed to add colspan as property for this component.

Unfortunately for now we are not able to provide concrete timelines but we are currently working on a first preview version of the new WebComponent which should already offer a first impression of the concepts behind. We have gathered the feature requests and we surely have them in mind while developing the new component.

Hi all,
any update on this? Since native <td> isn't supported within a <ui5-table-row> i've got a problem with my colspan implementation. It's only <ui5-table-cell> component supported and on this component i cannot set an colspan.
Or was there any update on this?

there are no updates.The statement from Hristo above is still valid.
But can you please go in more detail for which concrete purpose you need the colspan?
So far none of the tables which are offered by UI5 (not only the WebComponents but also the UI5 controls) do have such a functionality. And in combination with some table functionality (e.g. column overflow in popins) this would even raise additional questions.
Therefore it would be really helpful to understand the purpose in your case.

We have the same requirement. in our case it would help to visually combine cells in columns with the same value. Think about the following example:

col1	col2	col3	value
A1	A2	A3a	1
A1	A2	A3b	1
A1	A2a	A3c	1
B1	B2	B3a	1
B1	B2a	B3b	1
B1	B2a	b3c	1

using rowspans helps to visualise the groups and make the table easier to diggest

col1	col2	col3	value
A1	A2	A3a	1
		A3b	1
	A2a	A3c	1
B1	B2	B3a	1
	B2a	B3b	1
		b3c	1

in the end it is a more data focused view of data that one would visualise as a sankey chart or tree map

the rowspan usecase is clear. It is similar to the "mergeDuplicates" of the ResponsveTable in UI5 classic. The requirement to offer such a functionality in the Table Web Component make sense. But it is mainly a usability feature to improve the readability of the table. So I assume it will take a while before this rally can be picked up because there a further more importat functional gaps to be addressed first.

I still struggle with the colspan I would exclude it from now from further considerations. The Web Component table should be a data grid. The given usecase of a TreeMap seems to go more in the direction of using a table as layout or even as a kind of graphical component like a chart. If such a usecase is required this is better covered with a dedicated new Web Component for such a purpose, I think.
