Hi, my name is Akhil Chinnakotla 👋

:eyes:

I’m a Software Engineer working to better understand how to expand the use of Deep Learning and Computer Vision in consumer products by making this technology more available to the average user as well as integrating this technology into the projects I am developing. My expertise includes Deep Learning, Operating Systems, and Full-Stack Development which I constantly utilize through professional, academic, and personal projects. I enjoy generating new ideas and devising feasible solutions to broadly relevant problems. Specific fields of interest include Computer Vision, FinTech, and Smart Home Devices.

I received my Bachelors of Science in Computer Science at Purdue University. I am currently enrolled in the Online Computer Science Masters program at Georgia Insititute of Technology.

🔬 Research Experience 🔬

  • Purdue’s C-Design Laboratory, Machine Learning Engineer

    • Developed a deep learning PyTorch based multistage framework that uses geometry changes on a hand’s surface and the interactions between the dominant and non-dominant hand/object for hand action recognition.
    • Implemented the YOLOv4 network to locate the dominant and non-dominant hand/object for the localization stage.
    • Integrated ResNet18 to classify located objects which allows hand action predictions to be contextualized.
  • Purdue’s CAM2 COVID-19 Team, Software Engineer

    • Employed computer vision methods such as scene classification, crowd density estimation and distance estimation on a system of 30,000 cameras to quantify social distancing effectiveness by using TensorFlow 2.
    • Created an interactive website to showcase CAM2’s data, analysis, and academic papers with React.js and Flask.
    • Designed a system to validate 500 GB of image data per week by identifying dead or blurry cameras with OpenCV.
  • Purdue’s HELPS Laboratory, Team Leader

    • Led a team of 10 engineers in developing an open source code review tool to aid developers in catching logically defected code with NLP and automated collection of user data to allow us to drive future updates.
