Sure! The GIF was John's suggestion and it looks pretty nice after sphinx has made the docs. I will copy it into a gallery PR and then reset this back to just using a plot call. |

Closing this in favor of the work based on this PR that @jthielen is doing this summer. We'll keep the examples, etc, but have the functionality in MetPy. |

Adds a function for nearest neighbor sampling cross section extraction from 3-D model data. This simplifies the collection of data points along a line for plotting a cross-section, however, it does nothing to simplify the actual plotting. Please note that the test simply checks against values that have been calculated by this function, so the test doesn't check for accuracy, just consistency of changes. accuracy has been qualitatively checked both on the test data and other model data. As always suggestions are appreciated, especially regarding testing this one.
