Capacity

Adrian Harwood edited this page Jul 4, 2024 · 9 revisions

This page is viewable by all roles. Developers will only be able to see data about their own assignments. Managers and Superusers can browse all project data in the database.

The capacity page is for examining the work schedule of the RSEs. There is a query function to report which RSEs are available give a set of parameters and a graph which displays graphically to which projects a person is assigned and where they are next available.

Capacity Query

The capacity query feature can be used to find out which RSEs are available at a particular FTE over a particular period. It returns grouped results based on whether the is a full match for both duration and FTE, partial matches, or an RSE is available for some of the period but not at the required FTE. You can include people who will leave during the period if you like (default is false). You can also take into account RSE assignments against projects that are not yet funded (default is true). Click Run to run the query. The capacity graph will use the same data source and will update to show a visual representation of the results. The Clear button will clear the query results.

Capacity Graph

The capacity graph uses a Gantt-style visualisation to show data on assignments over time (the horizontal axis). You can use the controls at the top right corner of the graph to zoom and pan, or you can drag you mouse on the graph to zoom to a time range.

Person Mode

This is the default view. The vertical axis categories are RSEs. Each bar is broken into blocks with a minimum resolution of one day. They are coloured based on the combination of assigned work and the availability of the individual to do billable work. The tooltip indicates the occupancy in FTE up to the person's actual availability as dictated by their post FTE or any overriding Availability Changes (see here). People who have left can be included in the graph (default is false) and also the availability calculation can include projects marked as unfunded (default is true) using the switches at the top of the graph. Blank regions indicate where someone has left or hasn't yet started.

Project Mode

If you click a bar for an individual or select an RSE or project manager from the dropdowns, the graph will reformat into Project Mode where the vertical axis categories represent projects. If multiple RSEs are selected then multiple charts are presented, one for each RSE. Colouring of the segments represents the FTE the RSE is assigned to tasks in the project relative to their overall availability for billable work. Clicking on the bar with take you to the project details page for that project. Blank rows represent projects which are still running but the assignment was on a task that is scheduled in the past.
