Wheel and Pedals not detected in Proton 5.13-2 (works in 5.0-10)

Problem: Wheel Controllers (Logitech G29 Wheel and Feel VR Pedals) not detected in-game.
Games: Project CARS 2 and 3 // Assetto Corsa

Repro:
Fresh default install of Manjaro 20.2 following these steps:

1. Boot Manjaro 20.2 Live CD / Install on a formatted SSD (no previos OS or info on that disk) with Proprietary Drivers (nVidia)
2. Run a full system update (only 1 package updated at the moment of the test on December 6th 2020)
3. Launch Steam, log in.
4. Enable SteamPlay with latest Proton Version (5.13-2)
5. ReLaunch steam
6. Install the game (any of the listed above)
7. Launch it and try to configure the controls.
8. Game won't detect any input.

If I go back to SteamPlay version and force 5.0-10, Game works perfectly and detects the controller input in all games.
Going back to 5.13 WILL NOT fix the issue.

System Specs:
OS: Manjaro 20.2 / Kernel 5.9.11-3
Proton: 5.13-2
Three different system hardware tested with same results:
-X570 Pro platform with AMD 5800x nVidia 3080
-B450 platform with Ryzen 3600 nVidia 1660
-DELL XPS 9560 Laptop (Intel 7700HQ) nVidia 1050

-Logitech G29 Steering Wheel controller
-FeelVR Pedal Set

@azampatti Could you get logs of the game launching and wheel plugged in and failing to be detected? Please add the following logging channels: +hid,+hidp,+hid_report,+rawinput,+xinput,+dinput,+plugplay,+joystick,+winmm,+timestamp

You can create logs with custom channels by:

1. Go to your Proton 5.13-4 folder (~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton 5.13)
2. Copy user_settings.sample.py and rename as user_settings.py (cp user_settings.sample.py user_settings.py)
3. Edit user_settings.py and add these channels to the end of the "WINEDEBUG" line.

I can confirm I have the same problem. Doesn't work in 5.13-6 or Proton-Experimental either, works in 5.0-10. Debian Testing.

Oddly enough, for Assetto Corsa, wheel and pedals detection works, but when you start playing (which... uses another .exe file, I think?), the wheel turns in-game, but the pedals won't move. So... that's half of the problem fixed, at least?

I wanted to follow-up. I'm interested to get my Linux/Proton machine running properly again and I still have the same issue now with a different wheel:

Wheel: Fanatec CSW v2.5
Pedals: FeelVR Pedal Set (same as before).

If I try ANY Newer than 5.0-10 version of proton, it doesn't detect the pedal input. Wheel works as expected.

Same problem for me. One of the pedals is not working in assetto corsa (clutch) G920 wheel+pedals. Other pedals works as expected. Works fine in proton 5.0-10. But no internet connection in proton 5.0-10, so upgrading to newer version is preferred.

I am not getting any wheel detected in Dirt 3 and Dirt Rally 2. Also G29.

@alasky17 Took me a while. I was out from trying to make this work but I did one small research: I've tried EVERY proton release (and some Glorious Eggroll releases) starting from 5.13 all the way to the release candidate 6.3.8 and it's the same with every single of them.
Proton 5.0-10 My pedals work perfect.
Anything afterwards, I can't detect my pedals (FeelVR Pedals) in any game.

• Driving wheel device detection and reporting is better implemented, using the
  SDL library and HID usages as hints for the device types.
