Symptoms

The game doesn't launch properly, it gives a fatal error.

With the latest stable Proton release, 9.0-4, no start parameters:

(same result for all recent Proton versions)

Since I have limited Vulkan support, I usually have to add the PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 parameter.

Needless to say, older versions of Proton had different behaviors and wouldn't go as far.

Reproduction

1. Install the game
   2a) Launch the game
   2b) Add the PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% parameter and launch the game

I can add a proton log later if it is really necessary.

Hello @jvschiavo, DXVK bundled with Proton currently requires that the video driver provides Vulkan 1.3 and a handful of other things to start up (https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/wiki/Driver-support). The video driver for your hardware generation provides Vulkan 1.2. You might be able to get the video driver to pretend it supports Vulkan 1.3, but if any of the missing functionality is used with the game, then it'll fall over.

While PROTON_USE_WINED3D can be useful for troubleshooting, that render path is not considered supported. Sorry, but your GPU isn't supportable in general with Proton.
