Horizontal scroll not working

I observe the following problem with horizontal scroll in Virtualbox guest mouse on Win10 host, using "USB Multi-touch tablet" in the guest with default driver (from Windows or Guest additions):

• 6.1.38 (and many earlier versions) - not working
• 6.1.40 - working, tested in guest Win11 with Notepad and Win10 with Excel
  • but this version regressed elsewhere - does mouse misclicks: double click on words in Notepad - strange selection of partial words, etc.
• 6.1.42 - broke again horizontal scroll, but fixed the mouse misclicks

So, I think it's worth checking the code of .38 vs .40 vs .42.

PS/2 and other mouse devices in the guest didn't help.

Is this still a problem with the latest 7.1 or 7.2.0 release? 6.1 (and 7.0 for that matter) is not supported for quite some time now and there won't be any fixes happening for it.

It also doesn't work in:

• 7.1.4 USB Tablet
• 7.0.26 MT TouchScreen and Touchpad, Win10 guest
• 7.0.20 Multi-touch Tablet, Win10 guest
• 7.0.20 MT TouchScreen and Touchpad, Win11 guest
• many 6.1 and 7.0 versions other than 6.1.40

I'll test in a latest release later.

So, it seems 6.1.40 corrected the horizontal scroll, but introduced the mis-double-click bug and the next version corrected the bug, but broke horizontal scroll.

Have you updated both host package and guest additions? If I remember correctly, fix affected both parts.

All of the tests are with matching versions of host VirtualBox and Guest additions.

Just tested - problem remains in Win11 24H2 host:

• 7.1.12 MT TouchScreen and Touchpad, Win11 guest
• 7.2.0 MT TouchScreen and Touchpad, Win11 guest

I think I know what is it. Let's see if there will be a time soon to work on the fix (not yet tried to reproduce). The changelog entries you've mentioned are, in fact, related to Linux guests when Chrome browser needed extra attention to couple with mouse buttons state.

I did a change which landed into 6.1.40, but later we realized that it breaks things for other guests (iirc), so it was reverted and in the next release we came up with the fix which targeted only Linux case. This is just to explain why things suddenly changed in 6.1.40.
