I am using the extension pack version 7.1.10 for the Debian Bookworm Linux base package version 7.1.10, so I think so. I don't recall ever encountering a mismatch such as you are suggesting in prior upgrades spanning a decade or more.

and it worked for me:

Using the VirtualBox GUI to install the Extension Pack works as well.
Perhaps re-download the Extension Pack and/or re-install VirtualBox
7.1.10 to see if that helps?

Heheheh. Sorry to bother you all with this. I wasn't CAREFULLY checking the NAME of the extension pack. Apparently, I had downloaded an extpack to my home Downloads folder instead of the "standard" place I use for virtualbox upgrades and extension packs... uh, like, from 2023.

So, I did not notice it was for 7.0.10, not 7.1.10. I didn't notice I was grabbing it from the wrong directory to start with. And I had not thought of trying it from the command line, which is what led me to figure out what I was doing wrong. Just point-and-click, I've done this a hundred times already--nope. Gotta look with both eyeballs and brain fully engaged.
