Setup Troubleshooting
Practical fixes for the issues that come up most. For general "what is this / how does it work" questions, see the FAQ discussion instead.
- Open the sound-check in Settings — it tests your output device, the system-audio loopback signal, and microphone input independently, so you can see exactly which stage is silent instead of one meter conflating all three.
- Confirm the correct output device is selected — a correctly working device can look broken if a different one is selected in Windows.
- Make sure something is actually playing that has audio (not muted at the source).
Two-way translation (your outgoing voice) requires a virtual microphone (VB-CABLE):
- Install a virtual audio cable.
- In your meeting app, select the virtual cable as the microphone input.
- Without a virtual cable installed, Meeting mode automatically runs listen-only — you understand the other party, but your own voice goes out untranslated. This is expected behavior, not a bug.
The UI is rendered with Microsoft Edge WebView2, a Windows component. If it's missing, install the WebView2 Runtime and relaunch.
- Smooth — balanced default; start here.
- Fast — trades some smoothness for lower latency.
- Callout — tuned for short, quick exchanges rather than long continuous speech.
- Saver — gates translation to detected speech only (skips silence), which also means the lightest usage — pick this if you're watching something with a lot of quiet gaps.
There's no single "best" preset — it depends on how continuous the source audio is and how much latency you can tolerate.
By default, under Documents\Voxis\Transcripts. Each session gets its own folder containing the transcript and any exports you generated for it. You can change the save location in Settings, and open a session's folder directly from the in-app History panel.
The language the app's own UI is displayed in (menus, buttons) is independent from the language you're translating into. Changing one does not change the other — set them separately in Settings.
Use the built-in Report a problem feature — it attaches a scrubbed app log and diagnostics (personal identifiers like paths and emails are redacted on-device before anything is sent) and, optionally, the current session's transcript. This gives maintainers enough to reproduce most issues without you needing to describe your exact setup from scratch.
