v2.0.0
Overview
RAFT v2.0.0 includes the following two new major capabilities:
-
Flexibility and multibody systems: RAFT can now model floating systems made of rigid and/or flexible members, and those members can be connected by joints that allow for relative motions between them (only cantilever and ball joints are supported for now). In other words, whereas each FOWT was modeled as a single rigid body (6-DOF) in previous RAFT versions, now each FOWT can have an arbitrary number of degrees of freedom.
-
Frequency-domain lumped-mass mooring dynamics: RAFT can now use the lumped-mass approach for mooring lines, which requires MoorPy v1.2.0. This greatly improves the predictions of dynamic mooring tensions in cases where mooring dynamics (inertia and damping) are important. Thanks a lot to @serag-abdulmotaleb for contributing this new method!
Input file changes
- The
typeentry of RAFT members (including the tower) now has to be eitherrigidorbeam, otherwise the code will throw an error. To have the same behavior as previous RAFT versions, set thetypeof all members torigid. See #86. - New (optional) additional section
joints, which specifies how the members of a platform are connected to each other. Only required for flexible platforms. See #86. - New entry
moorModwithinmooringandmooring_arraysections. See #60.
