Wed

Terminal-first process runner and log inspector. Wrap any command in a fullscreen TUI to scroll, filter, search, and restart without changing the app you are running.

npm install -g @wedz0ff/wed
wed pnpm run dev

Requires Node.js 22+ on macOS or Linux. Windows is not supported in v1.

Usage

wed pnpm run dev
wed node index.js
wed --theme=sakura cargo run
wed settings

If Node is too old:

wed requires Node.js 22 or newer.
Current version: v18.20.8

Keyboard

Key Action
q Quit and terminate the child
Ctrl+C First press terminates the child; second press force-exits Wed
p Pause / resume live log following
c Copy filtered logs to the clipboard
x Clear logs
f Filter text
/ Search (n / N next / previous)
PgUp PgDn Home End Scroll
15 Level ALL / DEBUG / INFO / WARN / ERROR
r Restart the process
w Open the companion web UI in the browser (starts it for this run if disabled)
! then settings + Enter Open settings (theme picker)
Enter Inspect the selected error
Esc Close filter, search, inspector, or settings

The TUI owns the keyboard. Child stdin is not forwarded.

Themes

cyberpunk (default), sakura, monochrome, gameboy.

Press !, type settings, and press Enter while Wed is running, or run wed settings, to pick a theme and toggle Start web UI (webUi in ~/.config/wed/config.json, default on). Enter saves to ~/.config/wed/config.json (or $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/wed/config.json). Esc cancels and restores the previous values.

--theme overrides the saved theme for that run only.

wed --theme=sakura pnpm run dev

Web UI

When Start web UI is on (default), Wed listens on 127.0.0.1 with a random free port. Press w to open the log viewer. The page follows the active theme, supports follow, filter, level, search, and copy, and does not control the child process.

If the setting is off, Wed does not listen until you press w (that run only).

Development

pnpm install
pnpm test
pnpm build
node dist/index.js node tests/fixtures/logs.mjs

This repo uses pnpm 11. Native node-pty scripts must be allowed in pnpm-workspace.yaml:

allowBuilds:
  node-pty: true
  esbuild: true

A postinstall script marks spawn-helper executable (pnpm can strip that bit from prebuilds).
