AE NetScope v0.1.8-alpha

AE NetScope v0.1.8-alpha is an early public preview focused on stronger account administration, passive inventory-quality analysis, operational visibility, release information, and privacy controls for self-hosted installations.

Important

This is an Early public preview, not production ready.

Use this release only for controlled testing, homelab review, and non-sensitive trial environments. APIs, database schemas, permissions, deployment guidance, translations, and UI behavior may change before v1.0.

AE NetScope is free and open source software released under the MIT License.

Highlights

• Added passive inventory-quality checks with documentation scoring, categorized findings, relationship summaries, and navigation to affected records.
• Added an About page with project, creator, company, license, repository, support, and installed-version information.
• Added repository statistics, system health, version visibility, update state, and improved notifications to the top bar.
• Added regional preferences for time zone, date format, and 12/24-hour display.
• Added account-session management, TOTP authentication, WebAuthn/passkey support, maintenance mode, and update-attempt history.
• Improved user administration with identity and role editing, activation controls, MFA/passkey visibility, session counts, and individual session revocation.
• Improved the Updates view with release history and on-demand GitHub changelog viewing.
• Added an administrative search-engine visibility policy backed by dynamic robots.txt, X-Robots-Tag, and HTML metadata.
• Expanded English and Spanish translation coverage across inventory, administration, support, updates, quality, and account workflows.
• Added extensive API and web regression coverage.
• Updated brace-expansion, postcss, and nanoid to patched releases.

Upgrade Safety

• Added migrations for regional preferences, account-security settings, passkeys, maintenance settings, update history, language capacity, and crawler policy.
• Existing users, inventory, sessions, audit history, PostgreSQL data, Redis data, and backup volumes are preserved.
• Docker Compose users should update with:

docker compose pull
docker compose up -d

Do not run docker compose down -v, because it deletes persistent volumes.

TrueNAS users should update through the TrueNAS Apps interface.

Privacy

• New installations block search-engine indexing by default.
• Administrators can manage this policy from Settings.
• AE NetScope publishes dynamic robots.txt and X-Robots-Tag directives.
• The policy fails closed if it cannot be loaded.

Verification

• API tests: 96 passed.
• Web tests: 102 passed.
• API and web lint passed.
• Frontend production build passed.
• Release metadata validation passed.
• npm and Python dependency audits report no known vulnerabilities.
• Secret and tracked-artifact checks passed.
• GitHub Actions CI passed successfully.

Known Limitations

• This alpha is not production ready.
• Network scanning and active discovery are not enabled.
• In-app automatic updates require explicit configuration for plain Docker deployments.
• TrueNAS installations must use the TrueNAS Apps update workflow.
• PostgreSQL migration dumps are not encrypted by AE NetScope; use encrypted host storage.
• Search-engine directives do not replace authentication or private-network access controls.
